Honestly with all this Carolina chatter lately, if there is any way to get Hamilton without giving up Nylander, Dubas has to pull the trigger.
Rielly and Hamilton top pair for a combined 10.75m for two more years is too hard to pass up.

Oh yeah.
Whenever I see people female doging about the Leafs being beaten by Boston for "not being heavy enough" it drives me nuts - they got beaten as they had no answer to the top line, and because losing one of your two top centres for a few games really hurts in that situation. Add in a cold spell from Willie and Auston, and voila!
The D is now slightly better (Polak out, Muzzin in to combat Hainsey losing a stride), and there's more depth up front. |

I agree, last playoffs...
Matthews/Bozak/Plekanec now, Matthews/Tavares/Kadri. Obviously thats a huge upgrade. When I think back to last year I remember our D getting exposed badly. Especially the right side. I keep seeing that the Leafs need to add a "heavy" winger but thats ludacris. If im Dubas I am adding another top 4 puck mover..hint hint ...Jared Spurgeon

Spurgeon would be (frank)ing great. He's not the best at breaking things up at the line, but he's someone that plays really well with the puck on their stick.
One guy who I'd be interested in who might be had for a reasonable cost would be Severson - Moves the puck pretty well and puts up a few points while not being a defensive liability. Pesce would be better, but Severson might be cheaper... |

Not being heavy is fairly general and probably inaccurate. I think there is one player on the team that coughs up the puck in heavy going - Gardiner. At the other end of the spectrum is Marner. Despite his size is maybe the top pursuit guy on the team. Taking the puck away from the opposition rather than coughing it up. That said, I've seen too many unanswered dirty hits this year against the Leafs. The cheap shots by Dunn on Kadri, McNabb on Johnsson etc. It would be nice to offer some effective push back when such an event takes place - just to say (frank) you, you piece of sh!t you can't do that to us. Standing around after Trouba takes out Matthews and playing pocket pool is unacceptable. - winsix
Clean hits don't require an answer.

Bruins fans happy about the trade? Is it enough or are the Bruins looking for a bigger splash like Duchene? - Aaron_85
I’m alright with it. I like it as a depth move and it could help Coyle with a change of scenery. I think some of his offense was stifled the way the wild play from the back out and not an offensive game under Beadreau, where as Cassidy’s bruins are allowed a lot more freedom to be creative. If they got him with the intention of finally filling our hole at 3C then he’ll solve a problem for next year too and for cheap. Donato fell out of favor with Cassidy and they clearly soured on him. He’s got some compete issues on the wall and isn’t a great skater. You can over come that big part of the game these days with a strong hockey IQ but I don’t see it from him. He’s got a monster shot, but if he doesn’t round out his game then that’s it and he’s very one dimensional. He’s already 22 as well.
Where this move scares me is if this is all they’re doing. At some point they need to load up this roster for one last run. Maybe they used this TDL to address a problem for next year and will make a run in FA. Pretty much giving into Tampa this year and hoping they have e a bunch of cap casualties in the offseason with what they have to do.
Hey look at that! A Bruins blog on the leafs thread |

Right? How many heavy teams are heading to the playoffs right now in the league?
Of those teams, how many have a legit intimidating roster physically? Blues? Winnipeg?
The only thing that worries me is that this PP never clicks again at the pace it was at earlier this year (or last two seasons), then teams can have their way with us and not fear the retribution. |

Seems to me that Pesce is going to draw the most value. I love Severson but I believe he has another few years at a little over 4 mil? Not sure if we could make that work. Spurgeon is at 5.5 I think too. Are there any RHD that will be a UFA this offseason?

Pesce is a defensive defenseman. I think he'd be an excellent partner for Rielly, but those guys are never going to command a lot of dough. |

Depending on the return, I'd be okay with that. RW depth would make it easier to trade Kap, especially with Bracco in the wings.
On second thoughts, we should put together Bracco, a second and Gagne - that should get us anyone that we need |

Marner's deal will clarify all that. And I don't think the world is ready for Marner to be making more than Kucherov. |

In terms of contract, Severson and Pesce are basically a wash. Pesce is the better player, but either one has value at that cap hit.
There's a few - Stralman is the standout name (apart from Karlsson, who we aren't getting for obvious reasons). Beyond that there's a couple of depth guys like Jensen.

Clean hits? Matter of opinion. Some people think Fergie's music is better than Mozart as well.
