The JJ hate blogs remind me of the Marc Arcobello love blogs he would post twice a week a few years ago. Miss those days. Need to get bartley back

Unrelated, but Gudas should have gotten more than 2 games.

Judging by his twitter, he seems mostly concerned with the WWE these days.

I agree but it's kind of pointless trying to figure out the DPoS punishments...this league will forever be filled with the likes of the Gudas' of the world as a result.

I wonder if Genos suspension was used as a measuring stick.

I wonder if Geno looks at that and says, "See, I didn't do that. I hit his shoulder!"

But yes, that's easily more than 2 games IMO. I think Geno should have gotten two just for the act.

I couldn't agree more. Rutherford's response was just a hissy fit because he can't take the criticism that he (frank)ed up, royally.

I keep thinking about JJ's cap hit and salary, and wondering what serviceable wing or actually functional defenseman the Pens could have had. It's depressing. It will be even more so when Pittsburgh doesn't make the playoffs. Which may actually happen. And if that does, Jimmy-boy needs to be held accountable.

Gudas generally isn't a dirty player. He's a hard hitter, but generally clean. He's not on the Cooke/Marchand/Torres level, for sure.

You know, I fully expected Rutherford to come out and say:

"Yeah, we really screwed up, Jack Johnson is a terrible player and we should do everything in our power to remove him from our system as soon as possible without ruining our salary cap situation. I mean, we knew he was bad, we just didn't expect him to be this terrible. He's a useless waste of a player."

That sure would made for a good locker room for the next 4+ years, as well as give potential free agents incentive to sign in Pittsburgh.

Not necessarily comparing him to Cooke/Torres etc because they're in an elite category of mutants...but Gudas has had a fairly decent history of questionable hits/antics. Not the only one by far just responding to your comment. As others have said it's interesting how it compares to Geno's suspension...so contact with head = 1 extra game. Geno should've gotten 4-5, Gudas should've gotten 5+ but again that assumes we're dealing with a logic based system which this ain't.

Getting away from the JJ talk for a moment and back to ridiculous trade ideas...

If the Pens are truly in on some of the rumored names do you think packaging up ZAR + Pearson ($1M retained) could get any one of those players? i.e. Dzingel, Nyquist, Zucc, etc..

Would make zero sense for the other teams. All of those teams would want futures of some sort.

Pearson has no value and ZAR will be a 25 year old bottom 6 player next season.

Helps none of those teams.

Yeah... I kind of figured. Without any major draft picks outside their 1st rounder this year I was hoping some package like that could maybe work.

Maybe if you replace Pearson with a 4th it makes some sense because at this point Pearson is essentially a cap dump.

This is his 4th suspension. That alone should get more than 2 games not to mention the fact it was a blatant slash to someones head AGAIN. His last suspensions went 3 games, 6 games and 10 games. Not to mention all the times he's been ejected from games for reckless checks. Like Palmieri said after his head was rocked by Gudas leaving his feet to hit him, the guy no longer deserves the benefit of doubt.

I mean, bottom-feeders still need to fill out their roster. $2.75 for Pearson wouldn't be such a bad get on a non-playoff team.

It is 3.75m and for 2 more years. Gonna be a tough sell for most teams.

Have to dump Pearson before the pens can even think about offering Cullen what he’s going to demand

Watching the Flames play the Isles last night it's crazy that they Islanders are tops in our division.

They just collapse in their zone and hope the pucks hit them or their goalie.

They do bury their chances though. Shots were like 26 to 8 and it was 2-2.

Isn't their save %'s and shooting %'s ridiculously high?

I still think Pens have legit shot at 1st in Metro.

NYI is good at preventing high danger chances.
