Like I was saying. A lot of what he did was fill in the lineup at bargain bin prices. As we are a team trying to build for the future, none of our young and quality talent was made available. To roll in the good players, you need to be lucky in FA and you need to throw 1sts around. Except not like Tim Murray.

One of the problems people need to realize is that the parts you had to trade weren't Duchene or Mark Stone or Erik Karlsson. You're selling crap, what do people think he's going to get back. Scandella is so much worse than last year, but we bought him and some secondary scoring in Pommer for a guy MIN bought out and a bot 6 forward. Sheary was basically free. We're made up of promising young players and mostly average vets. This is simply the state of this team.

Parise is one of my favorite players, so I for one don't need to be sold on the player. But you're going to have a hard time selling me on the contract.

Berglund quit. Not the GM's fault. StL trade, money in, money out. They have about $1 million in cap space.

Murray didn't give up too much...he stole O'Reilly and Kane.

And by the looks of things, given what Andersen and Talbot went for, he didn't give up too much for Lehner.

People just need a scapegoat, and they chose Murray.

Maybe. I really don't know if we give up significantly more high danger shots than the rest of the league. As a whole, I really don't see our goaltending as better than average. I imagine you could dig up numbers to argue better or worse.

Wasn't really trying to focus on goalies. We have a player problem imo, more than a leadership/coaching problem. Having an average 3rd line shouldn't be such a struggle.

Bowl-U was a mid 1st round pick and he gave up a 3rd to see if that would pan out. If he can get a 4th back it was worth the try. Have to take risks to find a late blooming player.

But this team has zero fight when things get tough.

I've beaten this dead horse a million times over the years, but I'm simply not a fan of making your best young star the captain.

The Eichels and McDavids and yes, the Matthews already have a lot on their plate. Don't make them captain.

If they want to be leaders in the room or on the ice, they can still do that. They just don't need the media hassle of being the guy with the C on his jersey.

Well, some of that is true. Kane and ROR produced, but were both somewhat damaged goods. Scandella and Pommer cost $9.75 for...30 goals total? Sheary and Hunwick cost $5.75 for 10 goals? Freaking Tage, Slobotka and Bergy cost $7m for 8 goals? That is the state of the Sabres, and Botts brought it in.
He doesn't get a pass for it. It is right to crtique him for it.
