I thought Berglund would be better. I truly did.

He had issues which really destroyed the whole plan. He never wanted to leave St. Louis.

- ImThatGuy

We also put him in a role where he was gonna fail
StL didn’t even like him at Center for the 3rd line, so they moved him to wing
Yet our plan was to play him at Center on line 2 until Mitts was ready
Well... that was dumb
Just like playing Sobatka at 3C for 90% of this season is dumb

Gotta put guys in role where they have a chance to succeed

Stole this from Oiler thread:

Would you move Puljujarvi if it meant unloading the Lucic contract in the deal. Obviously it would mean not a lot coming back. The value would be dumping the Lucic salary cap anchor.

Would you do it Oiler fan?

Another early first rounder on the way out in Oil land. I honestly think Lucic would bring a lot of positives to this team as a teammate. Its obvious his on ice play sucks, but if Okposo goes to LTIR, Botts could get 2 players that could fit the roles the Sabres are looking for on the cheap.

This has Bottcoin written all over it.

- washedup20

(frank) no.
They will trade Jessie straight up for something in the offseason.
Who the hell is taking Lucic contract?
If Botts did that I quit as a Sabres fan.

It was honestly a dirty move by St. Louis to trade him like that.

You have to believe the Blues GM knew the Berglund didn’t want to go, he just used a loop hole to do it.

He got over on Botts, pretty good.

- ImThatGuy

Yeah, that was tough for all parties. Freeing up his cap and roster spot is certainly a bonus though. Lets you sign/trade for an actual 2C and sign Skinner. Ditching Berglund, Moulson and Pommer's salary is massive.

There was no reason to believe he wouldn't be able to take Dzone minutes for CM and play a 3C role.
- TheSabresTaco

But that’s NOT how we used him
He lasted about 6-8 games as 2C before he was moved to 4th line winger

And there were reasons to doubt him at 3C
Like how StL didn’t like him there & moved him to the wing

One thing I like about this board...FVCKING TRUCULENCE!!

I see alot of posters going to the net, making others pay for going to the rirty areas, giving some away from the play hits, facewashing
This is my kinda game

To respond to all, just don't think Houlsey is as of now on the hot seat. Can only ship out players and make trades so long now with the cap before you have to point at the coaching staff. Botterill should also look in the mirror also IMO.

Always appreciate your input 89. I just don't have any faith in the coaching staff and I'm starting to doubt Botterill's ability to get this team forward. A move should have been made in November during the streak and 11 wins since Thanksgiving is unacceptable.
- mhp

A move should’ve been made when they moved Berglund from 2C to line4
That really Fd us

All it does is make we worry about all the people making decisions.... housley is not the answer.... it’s plan as day.

As was so well written in the blog, the previous dip stick head coach is going to have a better record than housley, and he had lehner in goal.

- gordong

I'm indifferent on Housley. The players on this team aren't good enough. Last night Scandella was out of the lineup and Sobotka was where he belongs on the fourth line and the result was no different

We got lucky there
Hope Okposo is ok, but his 6mil per might be getting freed up for us too

Depending on what happens with Okposos health, that may be another couple mil.

I feel like an ass for speaking about it and wish Okposo well but it’s a business and cap space is always in demand.

Concussions are one of the most challenging injuries to deal with in sports. As this is a possibility, it almost seems way too premature to discuss at this point. I pray for his health, but you're right, it'd be great to shed the cap and the roster spot. At least, some of it.

Other than Hayes who else do you see fitting on this team?

how much cap do we need, who are we spending it on?

We have almost 30M in cap space for next year. Doesn't include Skinner or the rest of our RFAs, which will all make under 3M.

I heard Dzingel, Hayes, Brassard, EK 65 but that would be an off season thing, Toffoli,Duchene but only a time or two. Few other names but ones I heard are UFA's and I don't think Botterill wants to get involved in that now.

Okposo still needs to go, all of a sudden everyone loves him, it's like a GoFundMe page with him now.

He needs to get healthy first, worry about the other stuff later!

I’ve had it with first round picks and tanking. It’s time to start winning games, trade these pics for players like Hayes and Tofflli. Enough of the rebuilding, let’s start winning!

Let’s get more 1st round picks so we are good in 2025! Remembering we were talking about 2020!! It’s here and we are still in the same spot!

Your little rant is just awful mike. Wow.

Whose in charge of the sabres while the owners aren’t present? Who do you think is in charge? Pegula’s aren’t here to manage the team they are owners. That’s all.

How is Botterill not a respected name in the NHL? Guy was in the running for multiple GM jobs. There’s a reason for that. Botterill knows exactly what he’s doing Tim Murray didn’t know what he was doing. He literally has to start most of the rebuild over.

You were going off on Eichel on how he was acting like a little child but what’s the difference between this little rant of yours? Really man you need to take a step back.

When Reinhart and CM are due, Sobotka, Bogo, Scandella, Hunwick and Sheary will all be off books, which totals 18M

Go after one of the big fish.

Duchene, Karlsson, Stone, Panarin.

Trade a first and a prospect for a top 6 winger or a top 4 d.

Bring in a 2nd line center.

All ideas that add cap, knowing many are long shots.

We have done this picks and prospects thing long enough, we keep wasting year after year of Eichel and others and soon to be Dahlin.

Not this year. We’d be best advised to just lose out rest of the season.
