Poile is possibly somewhat desperate, and he's coveted Duchene for two years now. Hate to give up on Tolvanen so quickly, but as long as Fabbro isn't included in the deal I'd be mildly okay with this trade.

Keep both for Christ’s sake. Duchene isn’t worth it.

No he’s not.

Especially if he’s a rental

Agreed. This is one case where I actually hope we get outbid. Good player but I don't want to mortgage the farm for him.

Fabbro and Tolvanen are definitely the next wave for the Preds. Better to keep internal top players than overpay for ones that might only help you for 2 months.

He's kind of old now. Great player during his Triple Crown line Kings days. I still can't understand why the Red Wings traded Marcel Dionne. Idiots.

Kings managed to win by trading Schenn and Simmonds to Philly for Richards. So it might not be so bad but yeah it’s a huge risk

Yup, it's a win the Cup or this season is a total failure kind of trade because you traded away your entire future for a guy you can't possibly resign unless you can unload Subban or Ellis in the off season. Poile's seems fixated on Duchene though, and that worries me.

Risk/reward.

I’d say NSH has a very very good chance at winning with the acquisition of Duchene. I’d put money on them in 7 games vs TB. I definitely think they can beat WPG with that lineup, even if WPG gets stone

What do you think that it would take to get both Stone + Duchene? Not suggesting that is a thing at all, but just curious as to your thoughts.

I can't see Poile trading away a roster play plus a top prospect plus a pick, just for a rental. If he believes Duchene is the answer, that's his call, but I can't see him parting with the top two prospects and/or solid roster player plus a 1st rounder for just Duchene.

I'd love to see a huge blockbuster deal, with two solid roster players plus the top Nashville prospect and a 1st rounder to Ottawa for Duchene/Stone if they were willing to sign and trade to extended deals.

To Ottawa:
Subban
Fiala
Tolvanen
2019 - 1st Round Pick

To Nashville:
Duchene (re-sign 3years @ $7MM per)
Stone (re-sign 3 years @ $8MM per)

Nashville could move Hamhuis up to second pair & Fabbro to 3rd pair for playoff run. Nashville's forward lines would look like this:

Forsberg-Johansen-Arvidsson
Smith-Duchene-Stone
Jarnkrok-Turris-Boyle
Hartman-Bonino-Sissons

That's a roster that could compete for a Cup. I'm sure it won't happen. But man it would make a huge splash! Come on Poile. Do it!

What if Nashville does a sign and trade for Duchene. As part of the deal they flip Turris to Columbus who is desperate for a Centre.

To Ottawa:
Nashville 1st in 2019
Columbus 1st in 2019
Hannu Toivonen

To Nashville:
Matt Duchene

To Columbus:
Kyle Turris

Nashville gets a signed Duchene which is a big upgrade over Turris. Columbus gets a badly needed centre and can recoup their lost pick if they deal Panarin. Ottawa gets a stud prospect and two mid to late 1st round picks.

Don't think the numbers work for you. Reports are that the AAV on the amended offer for Stone is $10m with bonus payouts. It would set him up to be UFA again at age 31.

Whatever the reports are on Sens offer to Stone it should be regarded merely as telegraphing what he will need to get paid on a long term deal after he is traded to another team. I believe Melnyk would make a big offer. I doubt he would ever part with the cash by actually signing the deal.

I saw a report yesterday on Hockey Feed that said that a Matthew Duchene just recently bought a house in the Nashville area. Could be a different Duchene, but makes you wonder.

Ha, I proposed almost the exact same fantasy deal before only Involving Ellis and another pick on Nashville's end. Like you said though, it won't happen. No incentive for Ottawa to do this when they can land three or four assets a piece if they trade both guys individually, and why wouldn't they? Subban or Ellis contracts are way too pricey to move at the deadline, unless Ottawa just really wanted one of them or could immediately flip them for even more assets.
