I think for all intensive purposes, they are trying to trade him. I just think given the fact they don't own possibly the #1 pick, they are going to try to overcompensate for that. It's going to go down to the wire. This is not a well run franchise, there is a chance they either get pennies on the dollar, or just simply run out of time in trading him. I think even Ottawa realizes they have zero chance of resigning him.

No argument about them being a terribly-run franchise

I just think that someone out there will pay at-or-close-to what they're asking for Stone because he's such a unique and dynamic player. Not a lot of 60+ point players out there that are elite on both sides of the puck.

I also look at it this way, if Stone gets traded to somebody in the East, another team in the East will panic and trade 4 first rounders for Hayes
- jimbro83

I don't know if I totally agree with that. I think if Stone gets dealt the list of suitors for a player like that shrinks and so does the competition.

If the Sens hang onto him and don't move him, you still have a bunch of teams all competing for a smaller pool of players and the prices will be higher.

Not saying the Rangers are gonna get jack for Hayes, they'll get a nice return no matter what, but I think the key to an even-better return his Stone staying put.

The Bruins will have space after Chara retires. So I agree.

It would probably be my preference that they do extend him at a reasonable rate, unless some team gives up the farm.

The Rangers do nothing I want. So I fully expect them to give Hayes 8 years, 5.5 million per with a NMC early in the deal and partial NTC at the end.

If they could do it for 6, that would be a bargain, imo

I am going to take the underdog pick and say he get's extended. What type of odds could I get on that?

Serious question is there any contract you would be happy if the Rangers extended Hayes? With in reason
