I think we are going to miss Hayes, no doubt. However, lets see what return he brings before we get upset.

As far as Zuke is concerned though, in NO WAY do I want him here for the next 5 years. I love the guy, but a rebuilding team like this doesn't need a 31+ player on a long term deal. Even if we trade him and he wants to come back, I wouldn't give him more than 2 years. A 5 year contract for an older player becomes a cap anchor in its latter seasons.

It is a scary risk when you are depending on prospects to lead your team to future glory. It could be awesome but could also blow up in your face.

Low risk, high reward. Rangers aren't close to a playoff spot or championship. Get me that elite, cost controlled talen.

Three zone center. Improved offensively when not chained to zone starts on the defensive zone. In my opinion, worth it.

It's a fair argument. As I've said before, I'd be happy keeping Hayes on a reasonable contract. I also think it's fair for the naysayers to bring up that last year could have been an outlier. Especially considering he scored way more goals than norm, but didn't set a career high in points.

It's also fair since he got traded yesterday, that Charlie Coyle is basically a poor man's Kevin Hayes. He produces less than him, but his stats aren't as far off as you'd think they would be. Charlie Coyle's cap hit is barely over 3 million and people think he's overpaid. I'm with you that 6 million isn't far fetched for someone like Hayes, but I think you at least have to listen to arguments that it's too much.

Some teams concerned about how the Mark Stone situation is playing out timing-wise now turning their attention to teams like the Rangers (Hayes, Zuccarello) as well, stepping up with their calls... Don't think the buyers want to wait until Monday and risk getting nothing

Next snow day sit down and watch THE GODFATHER. This reference will make perfect sense after you see this classic.

Vitali Kravtsov may be playing the final game of his KHL career tomorrow night. Hopefully he comes over and signs a contract. We can then play him up to 10 games without activating his first year. Zibby, Kreider and Kravtsov would be fun to watch...

Everyone rags on Buffalo and Edmonton for good reason. It's good to point out now that Colorado low key has been a failure too. This is a team that did a total teardown and actually drafted reasonably well. Yet despite having Duchene, Statsny, Landeskog, Mackinnon, Shatty, etc haven't been able to put any kind of sustainable success. It's why I'll never advocate for a total tear down. Even Pittsburgh, which is the model of tanking, surrounded Crosby from the get go with guys like Mark Recchi and John Leclair.

It's almost like I've beated this drum the past week, that Hayes and Zucc may become hotter targets to teams because the price of Panarin and Stone will be too high.

For whatever it is worth: Zuccarello and Hayes on with first power play unit prior to formal morning skate at MSG. Howden in non contact jersey.

10:27 AM - 21 Feb 2019

It'd such a Rangers move for one or both them to get hurt tonight.

Bruce Garrioch of "The Ottawa Sun" is reporting that the Senators have presented Mark Stone with multi year offers of both 5 and 6 years term for more money than what was originally offered to him last summer on multi year deal options, prior to when the two sides later agreed to the current 1 year deal through this season at $7.35M.

With Winnipeg, Nashville, and Columbus being considered the most likely landing targets for Duchene, along with a few others mentioned as possible destinations, should Stone re-sign with Ottawa in also removing him as a target of the Winnipeg, Boston, and St. Louis of late, it would increase the trade return value of Hayes. That's why Gorton stated yesterday that, "we will weigh the pros and cons of re-signing them, (in referring to Hayes and Zucc), versus trading them right to the end".

So do not draw conclusions yet, without seeing where both Stone and Duchene end up, with Duchene for now being the only one that will not be playing for the Sens against the Devils tonight in NJ.

For how up and down Zucc has been this year...he still is almost on a point per game level. 37 in 44

Why i never understood the narrative he is worth nothing more than a 2nd and a average prospect

Idk, maybe you've heard of this thing called the trade deadline that is rapidly approaching?
