Rangers blew it on Hayes when they could have locked him up long term this past summer. At that time, the price might have been in the $6 mil range. Now, based upon how he has played, six years at $6.5 or more is fairly likely. On Zucc, agreed, five years might be feasible, depending on the dollars. But team waited to negotiate on each and now, will see each be elsewhere in the future. - airjan23
I'm just being a devil's advocate here, was it a mistake to sign Hayes long term last summer? He had just posted a 25 goal season, but had consistently been a 14-18 guy. We can argue about how he was used initially (a fair point), but there was a legitimate reason that he'd be somewhat of a one hit wonder. It's still not guaranteed he gets to 20 this year.

Charlie Coyle's been pretty terrible for Minnesota this year, but Nino was pretty terrible for them too until he got traded
I was never a big fan of Coyle, think Bruins may have gotten robbed on that one |

I'm out here rooting for the Rangers to turn into a dynasty via the draft. Yet you people are ok with team being not good to a playoff team but not bad enough to land an organization changing talent. I don't want allies like that. - tomburton99

Thats the thing though, where the Rangers are most likely going to pick its not going to be a center or at least a really good one. So now we will be back to square one, awful center depth |

In that range, I'm more partial to Newhook. Zegras has the skill, but he's going to have to bulk up ALOT the next few years. Guys can be undersized, but Allen Iverson's rarely work out in the NHL at center. |

If he falls that far, I might run up to the podium myself and make that pick before being dragged off by security |

A few thoughts on that.
A) It's the only mock I've seen with him outside the top 3
B) It's a mock draft and means almost nothing
C) I'd run up there too |

Donato's nothing special either. Solid, but I don't think he'll ever be what the Bruins hoped he would be. |

Let’s see and that center depth, which everyone whined about that we lacked years ago, was finally in New York. Now, gone. Everyone better hope Chytil becomes a 2c or they land Hughes to fill that role. |

Three zone center. Improved offensively when not chained to zone starts on the defensive zone. In my opinion, worth it. |

I think Hayes is going to be hard to replace as well
that being said I am very curious to see what he looks like these next few years when he isnt in a "contract year"
Hes had back to back great seasons no doubt but he had/has something to prove |

I agree on the fact that Hayes came into form when we was unleashed. If it was a straight up choice between keeping him or Zucc I would say Zucc. Hayes can fetch more on the market and Zucc is such a presence on a young team. If Zucc fetches a 2nd and a mid-tier prospect like some are saying i dont think it's worth it. If we get blown away by an offer than so be it. |

It is a scary risk when you are depending on prospects to lead your team to future glory. It could be awesome but could also blow up in your face. |
