How about Jim West? And, yes, I am old. But still remember him vividly.

Foley used to be great with Tallon because they did a radio/TV broadcast that provided no time for any shtick- just play by play and analysis. Used to love when Uncle Dale got fired up about stuff. TV being the visual medium it is lets Foley and Eddie wander off on their bromance tangents during slow periods of play.

Steve Rain.

So you are a champion for keeping Hayden.

I have noticed comments about his game occassionally on this board that are perplexing. Since you are at a lot of games, I would appreciate your analysis -

Hayden's balance on skates, ability to check with full body force, even leverage in fighting has been questioned. Do you see a slight issue with his balance? When there is a serious problem, you have the Kyle Beech story.

Also knowing your disdain for reliance upon prospects, you have seen Forsling perform better earlier this season. Are you in favor of giving him time to develop insofar as he might shape up like Koekkoek has. This may mean playing well in Rockford before playing regularly NHL

Why is Florida wanting to move Hoffman? The $5.1 million salary could have something to do with it. But Tallon acquired him and he is having a career season. He is in the prime of his career from an age and performance standpoint. I have to ask, is some of the issues he experienced in Ottawa follow him if he is traded again?

If I was a betting man, which I'm not, I'd bet that Bowman is up to something. His one big chance to not go quietly into that good night. His opportunity to leave his imprint on the club. If he does nothing for this year's version, he can go hold hands with Minny as the boat sinks. Think he has more class than that. Just a guess like everyone else.

AA sikrua and 4th for dzingel then sign 4 to 5 million for 4 to 5 years just throwing it out there.

I would bet that Ottawa is not one of the teams that AA would agree to go to.

He's probably up to his 3rd twinkie, seriously he has a chance to rebuild the team, no way he trades for a rental

Gardiner is already taking a hike because his contract is up after the season - same with Hainsey. Check Capfriendly and you'll see your team is at $70M and that's with only 8 forwards, 5 d-men, 1 goalie and Horton's contract. You still have to re-sign Marner, Kapanen, Johnsson, a couple more forwards, a backup goalie and replacements for Gardiner and Hainsey.

Leafs will be fine. Having a talented roster isn't really cap hell. Dubas insulated himself with two cap guys as AGM. Brandon Pridham was a contributor to the curent CBA and worked for NHL central office. Laurence Gilman is a JD, he was a contributor the Vegas NHL expansion.

They are already shifting the high end contract game with Tavares and Matthews contracts coming in at 92-93% bonuses (lockout/buyout proof, tax friendly) taking full advantage of their financial resources.

Marner will sign a deal that works for both sides. Kapanen and Johnsson will take bridge deals. Both are available for trade as well for top 4 D.

Gardiner and Hainsey free up cap this year. Marleau and Horton the season following. The Leafs have used Horton's cap space in the off-season previously and will likely continue to do so.

Sparks is an RFA, he will not command much money. The Marlies is continue to stock cheap depth players for next season. Calle Rosen is a nearly PPG defensemen this year signed for 2 more years at 750K.

Some talent (Gardiner) will walk out the door yes, but overall the core should see a decade of opportunity similar to the Pens. I'm not saying the Leafs will win Cups, but the Crosby-Malkin era essentially from 06-07 to current has been a contender threat nearly every year. No reason the Matthews-Marner era can't have 10+ years off playoff entries.

Marner should not take a penny less than $10mil....not sure how that "works for both sides"?? I'm hoping for a Leafs vs Bolts playoff matchup, that would be fun hockey to watch.

There is that and the price for a rental is a 1st and a b/c prospect. Which, as you stated, makes zero sense for Hawks at this point.

You will be in better shape for 2020/21 but with Marleau and Horton's contract still on the books in 2019/20 and the verbal commitment to Nylander to not trade him - the math isn't going to work for 2019/20. If you're counting on Marner accepting anything less than $9M I think you're going to be disappointed and it may be more like $10M. And if you're thinking the agents of Kapanen and Johnsson don't know what the market would pay for them and still advise them to take "home town discount" bridge deals - odds are you're going to be disappointed there too. But, good luck to you.

Now we are talking but I think they would want something a little more, don’t think Sikura cuts it, Plus I think AA would have to agree to go there.
The key is that kid would automatically have to sign an extension before any trade is made. Or at least agree to it.

Well Matthews only signed for 5, which is probably what Marner will also do, so then your window is 5 years not 8 which is max term, as if they perform to there abilities they will command more.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Kapanen gets an offer sheet.

I could be wrong but with AA having 2 more years at $4.5M - he isn't really a rental and he's not going to garner much in a trade. So, the idea is to "unload" him sooner than later and if the proposed deal is something Ottawa would agree to - Sikura is not too high a price to unload AA. This is all contingent on Dzingel signing the deal in the proposal because it's a deal I would like the Hawks to make after July 1st anyway.

I'm curious to how Marner plays out. I get the 10 mil but how does Marner make more than Kucherov at 9.5? I think there is more comparables for high end wingers than there was for Matthews.

Gaudreau only makes 6.75, similar for Pastrnak.

If Marner shouldn't take a penny less than 10, I assume you agree neither should Point or Rantanen?

More? For a UFA? I guess if they have an extension before the trade . He is also another guy who bleeds shots against when he is on the ice. Rather the Hawks find players on the other end of the spectrum. They already have enough players who are bad at shot suppression.

Why don't you just wait and sign him in the summer and keep Sikura and the 4th?

To me, if StanBo is going to make a trade, it will be along the lines of the Strome trade. I don't know who would be coming and going, but more of a guy we don't like anymore for a guy you don't like anymore, but we can fix.
