it clearly hasn't, hes moved out dead weight, brought up some young guys in Meyers and Bailey, has not handed Simmer a contract either. What are you worried about again?
- ClaudeFather

On-ice play. They were lucky to get wins over the weekend. They got their asses handed to them last night. In many of the last dozen games they were severely out-shot and needed Hart to bail them out. That is not sustainable.

There are in fact several Phantoms d-man who could be tried in the 6th slot. In house options to provide sanity. I’m sure at least one of them has experience playing with Myers. Just saying...

Depends on where the Flyers are in the next little while. I'm not sure the upgrade on D are currently in the organization. Pretty obvious they need to add to the group of Provy, Sanheim, Gudas and Myers. Hagg and Ghost need to play better or there positions should be in jeopardy come next year. Maybe Freidman next year? challenges for a spot. Its a young core that needs a quality type vet to help going forward.

Yes, it is concerning but nothing Fletcher has done has made me think the big picture has not changed. It looks like more than likely Simmer will be moved, that was our big trade piece. Moving Raffl for a late mid round pick I could care less about. Everything else needs to be addressed in the off season and hopefully some young players making the team next year. Adding a Frost and a Meyers could potentially go a long way next year. Still hopeful for playoffs this year though.

I like his approach so far..couple other dead weight pieces to go .Now comes the tough part. ...Reconfiguring the roster. Because as he has stated. They aren't good enough.
There's absolutely nothing to dislike about Fletchers moves so far.

The Flyers have one big chip to trade right now at the deadline as a seller. If this win streak has convinced him to keep Simmonds for the rest of the season and then let him walk or trade him for less at the draft, then he has made a bad decision.
- MJL

I can't imagine that has happened.

I'm trying to stay positive about the playoffs...but the math doesn't look good. at least their within shouting distance, making the games more enjoyable.

There are moves that really do need to be made.

It is very clear that the Flyers could only make the playoffs if they basically go on an insane winning streak with other teams dropping games. Really, not very likely. With or without Simmonds the Flyers are not going to make the playoffs. With or without Gudas, the Flyers are not going to make the playoffs. It is necessary to instead look at the team and decide who will be here next year and how do you make the team better by "spending" assets that you currently have.

- wbon22

I’m not moving gudas. He can be a part if the future. We don’t have that many young dmen that we can just deem him replaceable. He has a nice contract for next year.

My Game Observations:

- MacDonald/Gostisbehere pairing is just bad. Wouldn't be surprised to see Myers in thursday.

- J35Bacher

Hagg-Gudas is also a really bad combo. If they still don't want to play Myers, at least switch up the pairings. This couldn't be any worse.

Flyers are only six points out of a playoff spot.

Last time I checked this organization wants wins and they want them now! Fletcher should add the necessary pieces to make the playoffs.

1st + Myers for Duchene.

after last years playoffs I wouldn't have agreed with this, But he really has been solid this year. He has also, for the most part, gotten away from those questionable hits that were happening to frequently. I hope they keep him.

That I don't agree with. Schlemko is not better than MacDonald.
- MJL

I don’t know if Schlemko ever played with Myers, if so, a negligible amount. I wasn’t talking about him.

First bold: I agree. I'm concerned because last week Fletcher said that the recent winning streak has changed his mind about how he's approaching the trade deadline.

Second bold: Yes! I also think we're eventually going to find out that Ghost has an injury that is compounding his mental issues.

- Scoob

I think that was fletcher boosting the value of his assets.
I dont think his plan has changed but I think he is playing the game and saying "look what we can do....if you want this plyser from my team I need to be wowed to move x, y, or z"
I dont thinki the plan has changed at all. Fletcher is no dummy...playoffs are a fantasy right now

Amac is what he is. A serviceable Bottom pairing guy on an average NHL team. Some argue he's better then that....well one guy does. Some argue he's a total liability. I think regardless of anyone's opinion about him, his days in Philly are coming to an end come this summer. Quite simply good NHL teams don't have guys like this and if Fletcher truly wants the Flyers to be a good NHL team next year, Amac will not be on the roster, that much is obvious.
- landros 2

I think that sums it up.

Do you buy him out, retain half in a trade for a 7th rd pick, or just waive to the minors?

Better to just deal AMac this offseason which I think can be done with a retention of 30-40%. Hopefully Morin can stay healthy and then Hagg can be your 7th D.
- BiggE

in theory yes it is better. Though who would want him? Also would have to retain the full 50%.

Doesnt amac make like 5.7 in actul real dollars as well? who wants to pay that?

With Myers likely to draw in I think it's time to mix up the D pairings. Too many guys struggling to keep a status quo.

Although....it is not all about Simmonds....I will remind you. Fletcher has stated, as far as the rest of this season as it relates to Simmonds, the choices are

1) re-sign him

2) trade him

Folks can come up with wacky signing agreement proposals or ideas that he comes back as a UFA next season if you want. Bottom line, it’s still #1 or #2. There is no walking for nothing.

So is Gudas getting suspended?
- arichardson22

I didn't see the game... What happened?

His name was rumored to have some deadline trade value... But, he can't get traded if suspended, Right?

I agree. The problem with Simmonds is that he's the 2nd tier of TDL players. The market hasn't been set yet with movement from Stone or Duchesne. Hopefully the Flyers can bring back at least a 1st and a body they can actually plug into NHL games.

I have not heard or read a statement that keeping Simmonds for the rest of the season without re-signing him is off the table. Doesn't mean he hasn't said that, just that I haven't seen it.
