More selective screen shots. We're now discussing who blocked the original shot by Stamkos on the play. That was Simmonds, not Patrick. The screen shot you posted here is after the shot by Stamkos.

No YOU keep talking about the one-timer blocked shot and you keep talking about it...I have never once referred to it, yet you keep talking about it. Stamkos didn't score on the one-timer. The point shot that Ghost tried to block and failed that caused the puck to go in. I don't know if ADHD is kicking in or what.

Point shot....failed block by Ghost...puck in net...who is covering Palat in front of the net?

Yes, now let's talk about the one-timer blocked by Simmonds....

I posted the comment you made on it. I'll break it down and try and explain simple defensive zone coverage as best as I can. On that play, the first forward back, which is Simmonds assumes the center position defensively. He actually did a decent job there in covering the slot and blocking Stamkos shot. Patrick and Laughton both misread it and basically play the same side of the ice. Patrick incorrectly drifts back deep trying to play the center spot and Laughton comes back on the same side covering the point leaving the weak side wide open. What should have happened there is Patrick covers the strong side point and creates an outlet for the puck. Laughton being the last forward back should have filled the high slot on the weak side and cover the far point where the goal scorer actually is. He fails to do that. You'll notice that when Palat gets the puck, all five Flyer defenders are on the same side of the ice. Defenseman have to cover the point of attack. Gostisbehere read where the shot was coming from but just made a weak effort. MacDonald had to follow Miller to the net. He doesn't know if Miller is going to stop right at the net or not and Miller is behind Gostisbehere. At that point rotations got all screwed up but not by MacDonald.

In closing, you got most of it incorrect and show a lack of understanding of defensive zone coverage.

That was the most hilarious explanation of zone coverage ever. Do you use that coverage in your hockey game?

This just further degrades your credibility. Maybe try another BS video or meme. Like I said previously, you have a forum to challenge it.

Just watching DeBrincat rip a shot past Jimmy Howard for his 33rd and simultaneously remembering that we have German Rubtsov so everything will be okay.

I got ripped here for being livid that we didn't move up with our 2nd to grab him. You don't pass on skill like that because a guy is short.

It was definitely a mistake. Some will rationalize it by saying other teams passed on him as well but that is looking at it incorrectly. It simply means other teams failed just like the Flyers.

Hey! AMac and Ghost both suck!!

Anyone else worried that we get "stuck" with Simmer? No trade partners?

- cdearth23

No. Both issues will be sorted out.

Who ripped you? I remember others wanting DeBrincat as well. Just like many were foaming at the mouth for Barzal.

I wouldn’t rule out Rubtsov. But he def Won’t be scoring that many goals. I’d be more upset that we chose Laberge 2 picks prior to DeBrincat

Unless you can prove you've been a successful coach for many years at high school level or above, please be quiet.
Most likely, you're like the rest of us: you've watched a few thousand games over the course of 30+ years and/or played a few thousand games, some at a relatively high competitive level. You DO NOT know any more than the rest of us.
To make the statement that Patrick is covering the wrong man on the first goal is patently absurd. This among many things.
On the whole Glak's take on the two goals is a stronger analysis than yours.

I will go on a limb and say that pick was a gimme and lucky Hart was still there when the Flyers picked him. Only reason I believe he was still there is a lot of teams were scared of getting burned again for picking a goaltender in the 1st.

The Flyers got what seems to be a franchise goalie in that draft and we're going to complain about it? Hindsight is 20/20....

BTW, McKenzie had Rubstov at 23, Laberge at 32 and Debrincat at 33. I guess he knows less than the HockeyBuzz posters.

I don't know how you can say the 48th pick is a gimme? Also, some experts didn't have Hart as the #1 ranked goalie in the draft.
