If you guys got a top five pick in this draft that isn’t Hughes or Kakko, you think you’d be best off going Byram or another d?

I do. This is a split on this board. I think we need to keep drafting D in the first two rounds, it's something this franchise hasn't done enough of. I kind of hope for d regardless of where we pick, or at least one of the two first rounds. Unless we have that top2 pick as you mentioned. Benning/Brackett seems to be getting value out of later rounds already, but history speaks for itslef in terms of where most top4 d come from.

Defense is definitely our issue too. Although, Cholowski, Hronek, Lindstrom and McIsaac all have top four potential. We just need that one that super star dman to make everything right. Easier said than done.

Demko has actually looked very promising but injuries are starting to pile a little. Markstrom has been average, although many on here argue much better than that (not me though).

There's a chance we have 3 rookie d in the lineup next year. More likely 1 or 2 obviously, but that's a good feeling.

Many on here wanted McIssac, if you guys end up getting multiple 1st rounders you're goin to be on a path that took a little long for us to get on. Started with a stupid "retool" and now are more rebuild committed.

I don’t agree with neem55 assessment of Markstrom, he is the only reason the Canucks are even in contention with the other 6 teams for a wild card spot. He plays behind the absolute worst defense this team has ever iced, Markstrom is a definite number one goalie....this season.

He is playing well this season in front of this suspect defense and keeping himself at NHL .500 basically. But like you said: this season. A lot of his wins can be attrtribes to the youngsters playing so damn well and owning some good possession numbers. He’s have to replicate it next year to really prove himself.
