Yeah why not. Him and Kadri can alternate suspensions.

To be honest as long as Gardiner isn't in the lineup I'd be happy with however. Gardiner is a guy I can never trust in a must win game.

That's a great idea. Currently, it's not fair to Kadri.

In all fairness, Matthews should be playing more. He is currently 82nd in the league in TOI.

While penalty kill time factors in to some of the players above him, a lot of them it doesnt. They simply get more time, and more opportunities to produce.

I am not advocating playing him as much as McDavid, but he should easily have an average closer to 19+ mins a game based on his talent level IMO.

There are times where I dont understand why the 4th line is playing. Why play the 4th line with 3 minutes left in the game for example. I am a Babcock fan, but I do find him a bit too stubborn sometimes.

Leafs have a deep team, Matthews is tied for 22nd for 5v5 ice time...tied with Eichel

Matthews 14:42 avg toi/game
Marner 14:52
Tavares 15:13

6th place goes to Crosby at 15:54 - around 20 secs/period more then Auston.

Gardindurrr gets more O-zone starts, not a lot, around 51%.. So it would skew the numbers a bit

Has anyone looked at 5 on 5 stats though Only Mcdavid is better than Matthews. Frankly, the lack of PPs is not an excuse for his TOI to be this low. If he was a PP specialist who was like JVR? Sure, but Matthews is elite 5 on 5 in every way (Possesion.scoring, generating shots, ETC.)He should not only get over 20 minutes do to PPs.

The real issue here is Babs obsession with line-matching. It's stupid. Especailly when you have the centres the Leafs do.

Bracco is going to look so good with Matthews. Perfect match.
- walshyleafsfan

54 points in 53 games.

Rosen has 44 in 51 games.

I think there will be growing pains for Bracco in the NHL, just like there was in the OHL and the AHL. He always seems to take a year to get used to a new league. So I expect the same when he gets to the NHL.

3-1 Marlies.

I absolutely think that Matthews should be getting more ice time. He should always be around 20 minutes a night.

Problem is, last night was the 5th or 6th, or maybe even more than that, time this season that the Leafs didn't get even a single power play. With a team as fast and skilled as the Leafs are, that's a pretty ridiculous stat.

I think he'd be an upgrade on Lindholm/Brown.. Maybe pick up DSP and then trade Brown for a D-man

There's lots of good players in the league, but they are on weak ass teams. How many teams can boast Tavares/Matthews/Kadri...

Not a lot of guys getting much more ice then Auston and not by a lot.

I do agree that we have good depth, and it does affect players on Tampa as well. The issue is, this has simply always been Babcock's way of coaching. He did this last year with no Tavares.
He's playing Hyman and Marleau far too much. That does not have anything to do with depth.

who is on the ice when the Leafs have an empty net?
- senstroll

nah....

direct correlation between amount of time Zaitsev plays in "Area 51" ... i.e. the spaced out zone, full of aliens and scary undefined stuff... but they serve turnovers there with great regularity...

I am not worried about the TOI at the moment, its probably not bad to hold them back now. Also, Auston went beast mode on couple late shifts and scored the tying goal. roll the lines and reserve some of that energy when needed

I think the ice time debate has to be flavoured a little with a face-off winning percentage in game viewpoint. I haven't looked at the stats ... but the eyetest tells me that Matthews wasn't particularly good at St.Louis, and that may flavor how the "gud pro Mike" selects who's getting ice-time.

that would be an in-game adjustment obviously
