how is Brayden Point only a 65 point player? - jimbro83
Lol I’m just catching up on the thread. Anyway, I can’t agree with you on Point. There is no doubt he is an outstanding player, but we are just now recovering from the damage that not having 4 first rounds picks did to us. I wouldn’t want to put us in a hole like that again. Think of how much worse things would have been if Hayes didn’t fall in our laps in that time period?

well I suggest the highest possible offer sheet that the compensation is 2 first rounders 1 second and 1 third.
it would affect the 2020 draft and 2021
you stock up with picks at this draft, I mean this kid is still 22 not even 23 yet.

He's better than Eichel IMO - jimbro83
He absolutely is better than Eichel. I wonder if there is a way ala the 90s where you offer sheet him and you work out the comp with the team. I think other than Kravs, I wouldn’t consider any of our young players untouchable getting a player the caliber of Point

sounds like everyone is forgetting this rule - again
probably reason #1 why there's so few offer sheets...
"The AAV for an offer sheet, which determines the compensation required, is derived by dividing the total contract value amount by the lesser of:
number of years offered, or
five (5) years" - CapFriendly

whatever the highest amount is that the compensation isn't 4 first rounders
two firsts, a second and a third
that's the offer sheet I'd put out there
if the Rangers strike out on the UFA's on July 1st
Everyone needs to calm down. This team can not afford to do a retool and rush this rebuild thing. It’s going to be 5 years until we have the correct system in place like it or not. We hope that these draft picks work out and we obtain some prospects along the way. When the time comes to offer a big contract to an elite player then all hands on deck. You cannot keep guys like Hayes and Zucc on speculation you won’t get good picks back. You can draft someone late and end up with a superstar. Please be patient and trust Gorton will do the right thing.
I got a (frank)ing looooong shot for ya - jimbro83
My only thing is Point worth losing potentially 4 top 10 draft picks? I see the Rangers drafting high the next couple of years. Not sure if one player is worth that when we are in a rebuild mode

I'm not sure that with Point, the Rangers would pick in the top 10. I already said I'm against an offer sheet given our current situation, but Point as your 1C and Zib as your 2C is about as good a 1-2 punch that would be in the league other than Pitt and Toronto. Then, it's really only the defense making the team mediocre.

I like Point. He's a good player. But I think he's great because he's on team with likes of Stamkos, Kucherov and Hedman. Brayden Point isn't worth 4 first picks. This team cannot afford to do anything like that right now.

Defense needs to be overhauled entirely. Top 3 worst in the league

I'm totally with you that we can't afford to lose another 4 1st round picks. In a couple years, maybe I would be more on Jimbo's side after we replenished our system. To Jimbo's point though, out of the 4 1st's we traded away, only Anthony Beauvillier is the one that is really biting us, though the Red Wings D that they picked in our spot in 2016 looks pretty solid. Of course there is no guarantee that we would have picked any of those guys, but at least I can pretend that we dodged Ho-Sang.

Once the Rangers can clear roughly 16 million in cap space by letting Staal, Shattenkirk and Smith walk, I'd be totally on board with throwing money and both RFAs and UFAs. Not now though.

Welcome to the don't do anything until 20-21 offseason train. I'm certain somehow we will screw this up. All they have to do is do nothing until then and not only will all kinds of cap space be cleared, our prospects will either be in the bigs already, or coming up then. We could literally build a Tampa.

not the 4 first round pick offer sheet
the two first round picks, 2nd and a 3rd offer sheet

I have to admit I love Point. He does benefit from having Stamkos and the others on the top line, taking pressure off him in the second line. But he is an excellent talent in his own right.

he's 22 years old and has 35 goals in 59 games, I mean come on
