so what's your suggestion, don't get draft picks because they have drafted poorly since 1982? this post is nuts - jimbro83 I don't think the mad rush by Tom to tank and trade our better players for draft picks might be the best route to go given our recent draft history by current scouting staff. I can distinctly remember you not being overly joyed with our top picks the last few drafts. I worry trading for picks that won't be ready for two, three or four years may NEVEF be ready. And wasn't it you just wondering why the Wolfpack has sucked? For years???. |

Tampa has like 5 million left to sign Point, Erne and Paquette with only 4 defensemen signed and Vasilevskiy is a RFA after next year
they are ripe to be taken |

I don't think past draft pick failures have anything to do with prepping for this coming draft
nothing
what do you want, you want Hayes and Zucc to walk and we get nothing like the Isles got for Tavares last year?
you try and try again, mistakes of the past have nothing to do with what they on draft day this June |

Let alone it ignores the fact they drafted a hall of fame defensemen and goalie in that time period and a goalie that was the backbone to a championship, but you know they didn’t score 30 goals so it doesn’t count. Also ignoring the fact the rangers have traded several picks in said time frame.
I’ve said it before and I’ll die on the hill, given the lack of draft capital, we’ve been one of the best teams in the whole league drafting and scouting rookie free agents.
This is an exciting time, I don’t know the team has ever had the amount of prospects they have and will get through trades. |

people pick these aribitrary stats all the time, this is a new one
it's like the HaitinKid always obsessed that Kreider never hit 50 points
I could talk Ranger history all day, Ulf Dahlen scored over 30 a couple of times, he was a high Ranger pick. He did it with another team, you know why? because we traded him for Mike Gartner. I never heard one Ranger fan regret trading for Mike Gartner. |

I don’t fully agree with the Tom method, but rebuilds in sports pretty much involve tearing it down and a long painful process. I don’t want us to go halfway on this, we really need to continue to trade and build for the future.
I think the team has finally started to address the Pack. It was ignored for years and it needs to have full attention now. |

What exactly about the devils screams win now? I think most realistic fans realized last year was a bit of an outlier and we are still rebuilding |

It actually has alot to do with it when its the same incompetent scouting staff led by two dinosaurs in Sather and especially Clark who is absolutely terrible at his job. So you cant blame people if they're not that optimistic that they will be able to rebuild this franchise. |

I've never been a fan of him personally take Anderson for example you pick a guy 7th overall and he cant play on a team that's rebuilding and is struggling in Harford granted its a poop show there. |

Chytil has shown flashes no doubt and maybe I'm just a frustrated fan but look at this team its the veteran players scoring on a consistent basis and none of these young players excite me all that much. |

I think Gorton may have made a mistake not trying to extend a few of these guys. Maybe what we have now might be better than what we draft for them in 2, 3 or 4 years. I hope our three first rounders last year turn out to be great NHL players. I hope the same for Joey Keane and Nico Gross too. I also was ecstatic when Pavel Brenda and Jamie Lundmark were picked. And I sat in the stands in November of 1974 and watched Nifty score 4 goals in a 10-0 drubbing of the California Golden Seals only to watch him turn into Wayne Cashman shortly thereafter. And I was at the game last week celebrating one Cup in 78 years. But I still love my Rangers and still dread the picks they make will follow suit. I don't want to hear Bob McKenzie say "the Rangers went off the board" again. I'm getting to old for this stuff. |

they've had 5 first rounders the last 2 years, gotta give them all some time to get here
I mean this attitude that you guys have that you dont want picks is crazy
the main reason that we are in the mode we are in now is because we traded all our first rounders 4 years in a row in an attempt to go for it |

Downeaster nailed it, it’s not that we don’t want picks. It’s that we constantly go off the board and grab guys ahead of where we could’ve gotten them. Last year was a good draft outside of the 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th and 7th round haha. |

well that was for Ken Hodge not Cashman, but bad trades have nothing to do with drafting poorly
some of the trades over the years have been worse than the bad draft picks, because they weren't patient enough to let guys develop, I think patience is needed now |

I fully agree here. There isn’t one young nhl or Ahl player that seems to be that major impact player. Still early but I want a Petterson type player |

Not a horrible idea, just curious: How big an offer sheet and what compensation are you willing to send to Tampa? |

I can tell you how Oolaf will turn out......if I remember correctly guys like A. Thomas, Wilde and McCloud were still on the board. Roll the dice with guys like that, not on a goalie that is 5+ years from the NHL and late round goalies have similar success rates as 1st and 2nd round goalies |

an offer sheet between $8,118,642 to $10,148,302 is compensation of Two firsts, a second and third-round picks
if we don't land a big UFA fish July 1st, I say sign Point to an offer sheet, 7 years, $10,148,302 a year |

ok, it's one pick that was really bad
but also, you gotta remember, that having additional picks gives them more flexibility to move up too
using that extra 2nd rounder to trade up for K'Andre looks to be brilliant |
