the only thing I disagree with is saying that turris to Duchene is a marginal add.....it's not. you're upgrading from a clear 2nd line center to a clear 1st line cetner.

since the trade:

kyle turris - 101 GP, 19 goals, 41 assists, 60 pts

matt Duchene - 117 GP, 50 goals, 55 assits, 105 pts

how on earth is that a "marginal add"

- sensarmy_11

If you look at last years stats, an argument can be made that it was marginal. This year Turris has had injury issues though I dont think he'd be at the same level at Duchene right now. To me, Duchene is more of a #1A centre who would be number 2 on a deep team while Turris is a #2 who can fill in as a #1 on a weak team.

Duchene is a clear upgrade one for one, but when you add all of the other assets, the Sens still come out behind in the deal. Of course this is all in hindsight so at the time, I dont think anyone can fault fans for being optimistic about the trade, it really just falls at management's feet and their inability to foresee the potential outcomes.

You make the assumption that Dorion's primary mandate is to win trades. I would suggest his primary mandate is to manage down the salary budget for players, get rid of long term financial commitments and do the best he can to stockpile future assets. In that regard, Melnyk is probably very happy with the results.

If you look a couple of years out. We are going to like this team. Getting there is incredibly painful.

Are we going to like this team? Wait until Dorion thinks it's time to make a push with trades to improve the team. Watch him make bad moves again, and again, and again... Then he'll put the blame on other factors besides him or his master.

ya, a potential buyer really wants a totally de-valued team with zero assets but they're willing to pay a 600 million dollar expansion fee equivalent. In a gate driven league you NEED players for fans to come out and watch.
- LeftCoaster

The potential buyer does in fact want a team that has young paid assets on short term contracts. They do not want to be on the hook for long term front end loaded deals.

Absolutely. Turris is clearly not getting top line minutes, or unit 1 powerplay, and nor would you want him to on a contender, so his ppg is way down.

Duchene is a better player, but gets full 1st powerplay time and extra shifts under the ridiculous 11-7 line up plan.

The difference between very good center with prime minutes vs good center is way different than a highly capable defenseman being replaced by a soft, confused deer in the headlights.

There is, it’s an Air BnB that he bought more than a year ago as an investment property.

From Dean Brown Twitter.

Last November Matt Duchene bought an Air B&B investment property in Nashville. It was not purchased with the intention of moving into it. His buddy also bought the place right beside it also as a business

Part of this post is laughable.Remember that it was a 3 ways trade. How do you know for sure that senators could had all of the that for turris? And oh by the way hammond is crap, bowers is average prospect at best,a 3rd round pick is very average.Only 2019 1st round pick is valuable to me and we still dont know where will be senators in the standings when season end.Its not a fact that its a top 3 pick.

Turris is falling a huge cliff performance wise and in no way i would want him with his current contract. We dont know yet where Duchene will be traded and for who.But at the end of the day what we will receive will not be that far value wise compared to what we gave up to acquire him.

If anything,i hope that Dorion get as many 2020 drafts picks as possible instead of 2019.Much better and deeper draft.

Our 2019 1st round pick is gone...get over it!

Easy to poop on the Duchene trade now that you see the end result. Getting Duchene the time of the deal was upgrading Turris on a team that was one goal away from making the Stanley Cup final. It's other things and moves that happened, unrelated to the trade, that caused the downfall:

- Making Methot available in the expansion draft
- Mishandling the Hoffman/Karlsson drama which in turn caused Hoffman's trade value to plummet to next to nothing.
- Mishandling Karlsson's contract negotiations.
- Trading lesser quality players (Brassard, Phanuef, etc) and not replacing them with anything of value.
- Currently mishandling Duchene and Stone contract negotiations.
- Melnyk

All these factors make the Duchene trade look bad now. I'd do the trade again in the same scenario. Duchene is the most talented centre this team has had since Spezza in his prime and the organization will be searching for a replacement for foreseeable future if he is moved.

Until we know what the Sens get back for Duchene and Stone, you have to hold comments really. However, the return Karlsson brought back makes me extremely concerned. Disappointing time to be a Sens fan. Stone and Duchene could have easily been pieces for a rebuild in the timeframe Melnyk eluded too.
