Take your optimistic viewpoint and go some place else!!!
Agreed though. If you would have told me in November that this team was going to be worth watching in late Feb I would have been stunned.
What I hope for the rest of the season:
1. No major injuries.. This is my biggest concern over the remaining games with the anticipation of next season.
2. Continue to get meaningful experience for Hart, OL, Patrick, Sanheim, TK, Hagg and any other young player I am missing.
3. Provy keeps looking more and more like himself while Ghost turns any element of his game around.
4. A standing ovation in the anticipation of Simmonds last game. People rag on him but he is IMO the closest the modern game will ever see to a classic Flyer. That warrants our appreciation. - opeth_pa
I would think it’s 50-50 on Simmonds being dealt.....if they are actually within 4 or 5 points come the TDL, do ya really think they’ll move him? It better be one hell of a deal. I guess it will all depend on the Flyers position and if the offers are good enough. If it’s for a 2nd round pick and a “B”prospect, I let him finish out the year in Philly.

Yes.
Some team will send a solid package I feel for him. Losing him for nothing would suck. i feel some team will give you a first and A level prospect for him. Maybe you get a little more if someone gets desperate. |

If that’s the deal....then I guess you move him. I m just saying if they are still close and the offers aren’t what you suggest, I’d be fine with him staying. |

If a team offers you a first and an A level prospect, then definitely. Hell, if a team offers you a first a a B level prospect I'd do it. Depends, though. If Pittsburgh goes off the rails and the Flyers win out from here through the stadium series game, it will be hard to ship him out. |

It would be hard but you still have to think logically. Losing him for nothing would just be bad asset management. Especially if it helps you bolster your team for next year. |

I'd rather have Duchene at 9+ than Wayne at 7. |

It’s gonna be tough splitting up this group at the deadline. The Next week of games are huge. |

It’s still possible that Simmonds stays, and hopefully Morin makes his comeback by next season. I’ve said all along if they don’t come to terms with Simmonds, a plan needs to already be in place for a replacement. Otherwise his vacancy creates a vacuum. The plan definitely doesn’t involve trading G. That much is certain. |

Fair assessment. You can only trade a player for assets if you’re playing for absolutely nothing. So it’s 50/50 and a gut decision for Fletcher at this point. |

Trading G for Reaves was a joke...maybe???
Yeah, I get it. Mantha cross checks Giroux face-first into the dasher. In response, he gets punched in the face 2-3 times. I'm sure he learned his lesson, just look at how distraught he was after the fight. He was practically in tears at the savage beating his body took.
Look, the days of wild bench-clearing brawls are done. Over. They're never coming back. Now, I'm not saying that guys like Simmonds/Morin aren't nice to have around for when the poop goes down, but who were the fighters when Pittsburgh won their 2 Cups in 2016 and 2017? Who's the tough guy on Tampa Bay, a team that's likely going to win the President's Trophy?
Today, it's not as much about 2-3 guys being fighters, it's about every player having each other's backs. That is what team toughness is about. The Broad Street Bullies were the toughest team in the NHL because every player, even guys like Barber, Clarke, and MacLeish, had each other's backs. If Mantha hits Giroux like that, I don't want it to fall to 1-2 players to punch him a few times, I want to see the other 4 players on the ice make mad dash to grab him and try to beat him. Granted, I don't want Konecny dropping the gloves with Tom Wilson, but I want every player to have that kind of mentality.
Just my opinion. |

If I was Simmonds agent, I would want a minimum of a 5 year term. If I were Fletcher, I would want a maximum 3 year term. 4 years has seemed to me to be their meet in the middle point. Personally, I think 4 years is fine. In a good compromise, neither side gets exactly what they want, but both get what they need.

Well, I guess we won't be extending all of Provorov, Konecny, Hart, Sanheim, and Patrick when they need their big raises in the next 3 years. Better hope that Frost and Myers don't pan out, or we can add them to the group as well.
This isn't about Simmonds, it's about asset management. That's why I was against the JvR signing if they wanted to extend Simmonds. You can have one, but preferably not both. That's a ton of money tied into two players who primarily need to have playmakers on their lines to be effective. |

Well remember, a top-4 defenseman who's a year and a half year younger than Simmonds and who has term remaining on his deal was worth a first. Clearly, this means that Simmonds, a middle-six winger who is going to be 31 next year and is an impending UFA, will be worth at least a first round pick.
I have been assured of this. |

I am pleased you were joking. I’ll laugh now. 🤣
Penguins are sadly offensively talented, cheat, usually have great goaltending, and get a remarkable number of calls in their favor (luck?). Tampa hasn’t won the cup with this team.
Hockey has changed and you don’t need designated fighters. I agree you need a team that stands up for each other. However, there will always be players who naturally have a better ability in the fighting area and you don’t want to be a team that doesn’t have any of those guys.

I don't think you necessarily need guys that are good fighters to win if you have enough talent (Chicago's last 2 Cups, both LA Cups can be added to the Penguins' Cups). I'm not saying they're bad to have, I just don't think they're a required part of the recipe to win. |

My max term is zero. They don't need Simmonds for the PP, and he's barely a 3rd liner at ES. It's time to make room for the next wave of forward prospects, and go after a top talent in free agency like Panarin or Stone. |
