To me it comes down to what a player is now to what there true potential is. I don't see Boeser becoming a generational winger, nor do I see him becoming one of the top wingers in the game. I love his shot, but aside from that not much is above average.

Ekblad would already be the top D on our team by a wide margin, and he screams franchise Dman. Considering a #1D is arguably the most important position in the game, it's a no brainer.

Petersson for Ekblad is a different story, but merits more discussion IMO.

that roster had been out of the playoffs for a long time and was subsequently deeper and younger than ours to begin with

drafting marner and matthews was huge but arguably adding brock and EP (as a comparison to us) instead would see similar outcomes.

It was younger, but certainly not deeper. Just trade out Virtanen for Nylander and the dynamics of both rosters shift dramatically.

Strangely enough, we'd benefit from the talent and they'd benefit from additional cap space.

i think he's a perennial 30+ guy with a run of 40+ in his prime.

for me its a bird in the hand situation

He had 61 points 2 years in a row. He held out and started slowly ( no surprise ) but he's starting to heat up. Lets not even try to pretend Jake creates offense like that.

I do think Jake would fit in well with the Leafs though. They don't have a player like that in their lineup, but have plenty of elite offensive creativity on their team.

Florida would have to add, but i think it's more of a discussion than Boeser for Ekblad.

yeah i definitely see where you're coming from.

nylander was my pick, but we drafted jake so it is what it is. both guys have their warts on and off the ice. you still see flashes from jake, but its just not enough and time is running out development wise.

I'll go further on a limb and suggest if you were to swap out Nylander for Virtanen and Boeser for Ekblad we'd be competing for a cup within 2 seasons.

The big question is, what would you have to add to acquire Nylander.

I'm amazed people are choosing boeser. Absolutely amazed. 23 year old number 2 dman that plays tons of minutes. If we got him and signed ek our team would be drastically better

He has 11 less this season and is a year older, I think Kapanen will be a 45+ point guy going forward.

I think he'll become a #3 D with Elite offensive skills. That's just my opinion though.

He's a #1 Dman for sure, even if he never becomes upper echelon. He's only 23, 6'4" and probably top out around 235lbs. He can skate, will play 30 minutes a game. Absolute no brainer unless you think Boeser becomes a Hull or Robitaille type of goal scorer.

more to it then just stats , BB is a great guy and solid team player , no need to risk on a D that is a hit away from trouble, if you could turn Bo into Huberdeau then thats a thought

I would never trade for a player with concussion problems

I can respect that. I will point out however that Boeser has probably missed nearly as many games in less seasons. Also, I think his skating ability will become more of a liability as he ages.

I also rate a franchise Dman as high as a #1C.
