I got a feeling most on here don't know what I'm talking about. That was what, 17 years ago?
Did I just do an obscure metaphor about a guy who does obscure metaphors? |

Bossy had 9 50 goal seasons in a 10 yr career & 5 of those were 60+, Ovi would be 8 in 14 years and only 1 was 60+ - A_SteamingLombardi
Bossy was my favourite player. He was perfectly timed for my age. Prime Lafleur was just before my time. I was a bit old to idolize Gretzky or Bure. Bossy was awesome. |

I agree. If building a championship team is your goal then Crosby's the guy. But if you are approaching it from an entertainment perspective then it's got to be Ovi. The guy is a circus. Greatest show on earth especially in his youth. - bloatedmosquito
Ovi’s ageing better than expected, the guy is just a goal scoring machine. I agree that he’s more entertaining than Crosby, especially as they’ve gotten older. Crosby’s game has lost more “flash” than Ovi’s. |

Ovechkin was born in 1985, Bossy had eight 50 goal seasons in the bag already. Era adjusted I'd say they pretty close. |

I remember the giant sign in the stands across from us in game 3 of the 82 finals that said Bossy Gives Milk. |

Give OV goalies that are smaller than Johnny Gaudreau to use that Sherwood on

Era adjusted goals per season. Could make a case for a few guys
Ovie appears 8 times in the top 100
Wayne just 4
Bossy once - Nucker101
Agree it's just so much harder to score now but when you have 543 goals your first eight seasons, 632 games, including 50 in 39 you're simply the best.
Bossy had 473 goals in 609 games his first eight years. Same era.
Ovechkin had 371 goals in 601 games his first eight seasons. |

Absolutely but he did it in the 70's and 80's is my point...not an original one. But considering the amount of his peers who were scoring 50 +. I think it really cemented for me that ovi is the greatest. |

99 is just lucky he played in an era where no one back checked, could skate backwards, or post sub 700 save percentage lol

I will say I don't believe projections with no accurate way of proving it. Gordie Howe with his speed and equipment would probably not even play in this era NHL same with Granf Fuhr Rocket Richard.
Gretzky started skating when he was 4 back then no one did that. They usually started 6-8 years old. Can you imagine players back in the 80 s with personal trainers , gyms and steroids? |

Bobby Clarke would have taken out OVs ankles if OV played back then. |
