i'd rather see them make it to the playoffs after a rigorous push than tank for a top-10 pick
- Michael Pachla

I agree, but what happens when we take 3/4 out of the next 10 points before the deadline?

I still think jbotts beefs up the amerks at the deadline.

That seems more important to our future.

Didn't you get the memo? The season is 100% over. Doesn't matter that we have 2 games in hand on Carolina, and a head-to-head match up.

We're all supposed to revert to a fatalistic coping strategy to avoid getting emotionally invested in the results.

- jcragcrumple

If you think this team has the chance of winning a playoff series then being “emotionally invested” in the results is the least of your worries.

Not trying to make a trade to salvage the season unless the player acquired is a piece of the puzzle for the next 10 years (even then that can be an offseason trade). Selling off players that could be of use to a team or standing pat and letting the cards fall where they may. They have been playing at a bottom 10 team level since the winning streak.
- Pegullaville

Gotcha
I’m in agreement with all that too
But that doesn’t in ANY way sound like “tanking” to me
We have vastly different definitions

Also... even for those of us that wanna see a playoff push...
i don’t really see ppl calling for rentals

The type of trades we’d want would be for
now AND for the future as well

How EXACTLY would we “tank” even if we wanted to?

No one seems to be able to shed light on this

- jdfitz77

Keep all of :
Sobotka
Larsson
Girgs
Pommer
Call up wilson
Okposo

Hunwick
Bowl u
Scanndy man (Ir)

Keep playing them regularly.

Sounds like Skinner may come in at north of 8.
- SABRES 89

Interesting.
While hopeful it would be less, I was bracing for something in the $8.25 arena...but was hoping for less term, like 6 years.
8x$8.25 is stretching into uncomfortable for me.

we haven't won more than 2 games in a row since the winning streak. (Insert previous Colts head coach talking playoffs)

Good thing I didn't say that then. I'd rather pick 17th and make the playoffs than 12th and miss. Even if that means we draft Grigorenko instead of Girgensons

I still think a trade of that magnitude is better made in the offseason. GM’s get stupid this time of year.

This Rangers Pens game is pretty entertaining. Don't expect the same from the Sabres Devils game. 2-1 Sabres in a shootout.

good point...lmk when you find out...

to rephrase, i'd rather see them make a rigorous push and get to the playoffs then sell off players and put youngsters in a position to fail

Lol

The closest we’d possibly get to “tanking” is just maintaining the status quo
Which imo is not actually “tanking”

agreed but watching this team since the win streak.......

it's best for this team long term to get a top 10 pick instead of back into the 8th spot and get thrashed by tampa

There is nothing wrong with that. To each their own. I’d rather not play the 5 extra games and have a better chance of getting a better player. Doesn’t mean you are wrong or I am right. I could be wrong and you can be right. At the end of the day this team is not winning the cup this year, If they do I’ll never post on this site again

I don't think he has a lot of room down there for beefing up the roster...in addition, players like smith and hunwick, mitts and Thompson, among others, I believe are eligible for the ahl playoffs...

imo, he owes it to his nhl team to try and help them with an acquisition or two with the understanding that it won't be a high-priced rental

Tanking- losing intentionally or not competing

Keeping this line up is close to not competing.
Especially if we have draft capital and better players in Rochester.

It's in the "grey area "

I’m ok selling off some guys if it’s decent value, or just clearing space moving forward

For example,
we pretty clearly have 4 guys we’d like to see on the 4th line right now that are gonna play
So if they were to move one of Larsson, Girgs, or (please, please, please) Sobotka...
then that’s cool
It would keep Thompson or Smith from getting benched nightly

Moves like that make sense to me
