You're going to fault the gm for bringing in a goal scorer?

You can't be serious.

- Powerslave

I’m asking someone who is in favor of tanking, and getting the best draft slot possible, whether bringing in Skinner runs counter to his goals. Without Skinner, this team drafts higher. In another way, I’d like to know when it’s finally okay to root for the team to win instead of to lose.

It's insanity. Good is bad and bad is good.

Winning is losing and losing is the goal

This fan base is embarrassing.

How many more years? Oh, just one more top 3 pick will do it! 😂 Ffs...

Draft well, develop well.

I root for them to win every game.

Winning is fun. People seem to have forgotten that.

Should they have sent Dahlin back to Frolunda too?

Bringing in Skinner was the only move Botts made the entire offseason to signal that he was trying to win this season. Sold Kane, ROR, didn’t make any significant FA adds. Move for Sheary was a low risk add for the sake of a 4th rounder. Even Skinner and his 36 goals have us 6 points outside the playoffs and 6 points out of picking 8th in the draft. So to answer your question even with Skinner, this team could still achieve the goal of selecting top 10. Without Skinner they could be drafting top 5 but at least Botts saves face by making that move to “lose with dignity”.

Says the Broncos fan who saw their team select a First Ballot Hall of Famer pass rusher 2nd overall who was a Super Bowl Winning MVP.

The Broncos fired John Fox after 4 straight AFC West Titles and a 12-4 record becuase he went one and done in the divisional round. Why ? Becuase Super Bowl’s mean more then Playoff experiences.

I hope Botts cares more about Stanley Cups then playoff appearances.

You guys misunderstand me. I’m not in favor of tanking. I want the playoffs this year. I’m asking the most vocal tank supporter how far he’s willing to go to achieve the tankiest outcome.

I completely agree. There are great players to be had all over the first round and beyond. Not just single-digit first rounders. You have to be great at identifying the guys and then developing them to full potential.

If you aren’t first your last. No moves could have been made to do anything of significance this year. This offseason Botts will put his hammer on the table and I’m sure of it. Next year was alsways more realistic for this team to make the playoffs then this year. Making improvements and missing the playoffs was predicted by almost every expert out there. If we are going to miss the playoffs at this point might as well miss by a lot.

I think teams sign up to play with individual players not so much teams. Tavares could have chosen the Sharks who have been the pinnacle of regular season success but chose a team who was on the rise yet hasn’t won a playoff series in over a decade. I think players see Eichel, Dahlin, Skinner, Reinhart and Mittelstadt and know this is a team on the rise no matter what the outcome of the last 25 games dictates.

I misspelt one word on the last page though so I don’t know if you can trust my logical takes.

- Pegullaville

I'm not the spelling police, that's for sure.

Not necessarily the last 25 games but , 8 years of collective losing.

How do players not nocitce that?

I was a Tanker in the Eichel draft year and I have zero regrets.
That was very unusual situation with two studs one of which was guaranteed for the Sabres.

I have rooted for them to win every game they have played in since 1971-'72 season, with the exception of that year...including this game tonight and the remaining 24.
However, that does not include making short-term moves nor selling off assets that are their future.
When they are one significant piece short, THEN is the time to OfferSheet, to trade a 1st and/or more assets to acquire said piece.
This roster isn't even half-way there yet, so I am not in favor of anything to maximize assets to be used for the future. The players own this mess they find themselves in, it is up to them to reach down, play the damn system and compete for wins... the core needs to learn to win, it will come in handy when they are ready to compete.
Sell, Sell, Sell.
And GO SABRES!

No offense, but I can't stand this mentality.

They need to finish strong. They need to finish positive. They need to be excited to come to work next year.

They seemed to have turned Rochester around. Draft where you draft, and develop them properly, whether they pick 8th or 18th.

(can't WAIT for the Tank Commanders to come in here and tell me we HAVE to pick top 3 to get a great player)

Last sentence is my only disagreement . Growth and achievement builds confidence and chemistry. Losing attitude is tough to overcome . Moving up a bunch of spots in the standings is easier than having to move up 30

Of course. But to the true tank driver (again, not me) it should be a move that is criticized. His addition only has caused us to get a worse draft pick.
And his success here has only driven up his price. If he plays elsewhere, without Jack, and has a poorer season, his agent has less leverage.

Hey it’s the grammar police again. Must have made for some good table talk with the wife at dinner. She must have been proud of you scrolling through pages of an online message board critiquing grammar of a man half your age.

At least this forum allows you to come unwind with your sarcastic jokes, getting a few laughs out of the fellas probably helps you cope with whatever daunting is going on in your personal life.

Half this roster won't be here.
If it affects them that much where it ruins a career over 25 games...then
Phil was correct, this team is soft...ship anyone soft out.
