Hainsey won a cup a couple of seasons ago and was a significant piece on a team playing without their best d-man.

I am aware, but 3 years can be a big difference when a players enters his late 30's.
And the Pens were forced into that situation. The Leafs give up big futures for a better D and have him 5th in TOI amonst D. They don't have to have Hainsey playing this role. And he's playing too much. He'll be useless in the playoffs.

If you are referring to moving either Kapanen or Johnsson for Brett (Joe) Pesce I hope the Dubas doesn't make that move. I haven't seen enough of him to properly evaluate, but the career numbers are meh. If it can be for Gauthier and a minor league player not named Bracco ok. Otherwise pass on the plumber.

I would move Johnnson....

He is good and all but lets not over evaluate him here...He likely won't be a core part of the team ever.

His #'s suggest he is a very good top 6 winger. How do we know Babock will use Pesce properly?

We won't know until playoffs.

This is the regular season....A time where you mix around your players to see what you have. And its TDL time, again a time where you need to mix your players around to see what you have.

You need to stop freaking out over TOI. It is the regular season. Playoffs is two months away. Stop spending so much time stressing over something that will certainly be different from now and playoffs.

Johnsson: 15 goals, 31 pts, +20, with about 12 minutes of playing time in 51 games in his rookie season. Led the AHL team and was their best player on a championship team. Tenacious checker, like Marner and Kapanen - Over evaluate????? I would think hard to trade until we have a better idea of what we have here.

Also you aren't giving Pesce enough credit....But also you do have a point that people overate him.

Him and Gudas are not far off...They are both good 3-4 d men.

He is 24 years old...That can not be overlooked and a lot of people do.

I am not trying to bring Johnnson down but I would take a 2nd pairing D on a decent contract all day over him.

Why hurt yourself in the regular season and potentially cost yourself home ice?
It's without question Johnsson is better than Marleau.

He's 24 as a rookie because he's a 7th rounder. Guys in the late rounds always get off to a later start in their careers. No one forgets that but it's irrelevant right now.

You are way overgeneralizing here.

But seems like its a repeating theme with you.

WE need to get rid of Marleau, not worry about trading Johnsson.

huh? His draft position is irrelevant now.

Do we give Par Lindholm a free pass too because it is his first year in the NHL? No.

Kap is 21 and Johnnson is 24.

Johnnson is a rookie and Kap is not.

Guess who has more room to grow? Kapanen.

He is 24. That matters as much as people don't like to think it does.

Man this is just getting stupid now.

No one is trying to trade Johnnson away.

But people want to add a D. Johnnson helps us there.

How do we know the coach even uses that D once we trade assets for him? I would worry about that and discuss with the coach first.

Even if he doesn't "Grow", he's still a top 6 forward NOW. He beats the odds and with hard work looks real solid as a 7th rounder. Who cares about his age?

You aren't making sense.

I am saying his age matters in how you evaluate him as a prospect.

Him and Kapanen have very similar production this year.

If LA offers you Doughty in some fairy tale magical land and you get to choose which one goes the other way.

It is Johnnson 10 times out of 10. Kapanen has much more room to grow.

I'm afraid we're not getting rid of Marleau.

https://www.pensionplanpu...ut-maple-leafs-salary-cap

We should be focusing on trading Zaitsev. Getting rid of that albatross of a contract would solve A LOT of problems.

yeah Johnsson is 24, similar story to undrafted Tyler Johnson on Tampa. Not exactly like but not far off, numbers of 22-23 year old 3 rd round pick Brad Marchand. Truth is we don't know what Johnsson will turn out to be - looks pretty good right now. (frank) Lindholm - don't see any reason he is on the team.
