Why jump to Connor or Roslovic as the roster player and not Appleton or Lemieux?
- Ross77

Are trading Stone for Appleton and Lemiuex? Yeah me either. I went from what Dorian would ask for why start with 4th liners.

That's a sick line up but what did you give up to get Stone?

Petan's career NHL STAT LINE:
GP 108 , G 5, A 18, PTS 23

He will never be more than a small average player at the NHL level so really has little value.

Nobody outbid San Jose for Karlsson. The Sens were unable to get Meier and the like, what makes you think they will get more based on the past? Look at the Sens record in trades. Name me all the pieces they have ever gotten for Heatley, Spezza, Karlsson, etc...

Ultimate, your still too high. If its Vesalainen, Connor, Roslovic, Niku then there is no 1st pick. No way, and Connor straight up is a big overpay for a rental.

Well we will see come Feb 25th. IMO the Jets will get him but it will cost more than your proposal.

Add 2020 pick. IF Stone resigns OR Jets make cup finals in either year, it's a 2nd. IF both happen it's an additional 1st

Who cares what Dorian might ask. Dorian is no idiot and as such he is not going to ask for something so ridiculous as those that you suggested. I am constantly negotiating in business. The ask has to be reasonable enough that the other side sees that its not unreasonable enough that a deal can be made somewhere in the middle.

There is absolutely no one out there except for some trolls in Twitterland or Ottawa fans that have ever suggested that those are Dorian's type of asks. Yes, the going rate is a 1st , a player, and a prospect. Like Ross said, the player and the prospect once a 1st has already been offered is guys like Petan and Poolman...not stars or potential stars like Roslovic , Connor, Niku , and Vesalainen. You've been around hockey long enough, this type of reporting is inexcusable.

completely different situation. Right now Stone + Duchene are on fire and teams like Jets are knocking on the door with Nashville, Calgary, Toronto, Tampa all standing in the way from a cup. Stone is a heart and soul player. Granted I would want a contract in place if I'm going to give up a lot but players like him don't come along often and acquiring him also means other teams don't add him

He’s no idiot?

Don’t have their 1st rd pick
Top 3 scorers/forwards are UFA

Missing out on Hughes or Kakko
Who is #1 C next year?

This team could be in Houston one day

I know i'm just piling on at this stage, but yeah peter those trade scenarios are nuts. I mean yeah, trade Conner and a 1st for Stone providing he signs a contract extension but for a pure rental purpose:
Appleton who was our 4th ranked prospect to start the year
Stanley our 7th ranked prospect
A first round pick
and add Petan

Nobody gets high end prospects in trades. Just look at Stastny last year, a 1st and a top ten prospect (Foley). Stone is better so give him another prospect.

I mean Muzzin has a year left on his contract and toronto didn't give up one of their top 3 D prospects

Petan: drafted 6 years ago in the SECOND round. Hasn't scored more than 3 goals or 13 points in the NHL

2019 1st: will be 24-31st pick

I do like the Finn prospect but it's going to take more than those 3 pieces for an All Star like Stone. Stone has a lot of elements that Wheeler has, even though their games has differences. Stone is a leader, two-way one of the best forwards in the game, and can drive play from the wing.

I would give up a lot and ensure he signs for 7-8 years if I could.

Side note, wth is going on with Laine? I was really high on him since he broke into the league, even more so than Mathews. Do you guys really think it's worth giving him 8, 9m a season?

If Stone agreed to immediately sign then its another story altogether. It completely changes the dynamics of the deal . Whole new ballgame.

IF you could resign Stone AND have Duchene in the trade for a rental, which player would you not want to sign long term (give up in the trade):

Ehlers, Laine, Connor, Trouba

*Only ask because of cap reasons

All those are to much for a rental. But it really depends on how big the bidding war will be to get Stone.

It’s really weird that people are panicking about Connor or Roslovic being offered, only to suggest Vesalainen in their place. He’s younger, and will be better than either of them. Just weird.

It is different, Ottawa is in a worse position with these two. Karlsson is a generational talent comparable to McDavid, Ovechkin, Crosby, Kane and you guys got crap for him. No team trades away generational talents anymore, except for the Senators.

Better than them? 2015 draft year is going down as one of the best ever. Vesalainen in a weak draft was drafted late.
