What I will offer in Gagner's favour is that he seems to be better than Spooner at keeping the chance share battle close. Spooner is pretty notorious for getting caved while Gagner has some fluctuation between winning it and only being somewhat caved.

But seriously, I agree that Gagner does seem to have a higher hope of maybe being a somewhat useful NHL'er. Both guys are soft and don't have the speed or elite talent to make up for it though, those types of players are always frustrating to watch because they're invisible when not creating offense.

So long as there's a concrete plan in order with him. Have a real and open discussion with him regarding our team's failures surrounding him and what the plan going forward will be.

I would just have to trust that whoever is the new GM would do just that with Jesse unless he is as useless as the rest of them were

Interesting note on the Talbot one....apparently Philly wasn’t on his wish list but he waived it so the Oilers could go through with the deal....I wish him success

Wondering if it is not time to start looking in to Ryan Smith for GM....

You could have Captain Canada be the first of the non 80´s Oilers to try and turn the ship around!

I consider recent to be including the last 3 seasons. They're not that far removed from one another, but Spooner's most recent success is more recent than Gagner's.

I distinctly remember Gagner's biggest flaws being his defensive shortcomings (not for lack of trying, to his credit) and his below average acceleration and barely average straight line speed. My recollection could prove incorrect as the last time I really watched him actively was back around 2013.

The buyout is clearly better for Gagner, I don't get why you'd argue that.

- MaximumBone

I thought you meant buying out Spooner.

But yeah, the only big issue with Gagner with regards to skating is his acceleration. Other than that, his skating ability is fine. Coupled with his agility, he comes out as a good (respectable) skater IMO.

His defensive shortcomings are an issue though.

Other than that though, he is a decent addition considering our options on the market for Spooner.

We truly won't know what we've gotten ourselves into until Gagner plays.

Regardless though, I like the direction these two, seemingly minor, moves are heading towards.

I don't think a guy with his numbers can choose to be picky anyway, not many teams lining up for that contract with that stat line

No but he could have been a Richard about it and said (frank) you but I think he knew his time was up when Koskenin was resigned plus in his mind I’m sure he feels like he can be a starter somewhere....maybe the Canes sign him on the cheap during the off season

So we traded for our new 1st line RW?
Nuge - Jesus - Gagner
Reider - Drai - Rattie

Almost a tolerable top 6. Now just send Jesse down for the remainder of the season.

Gets him away from 2 screaming kids for 2 months+. He can focus on hockey again and not being a father. He went to shyte right around the same time those little devils popped out.

My local beer league team? Done!!!

Would not let him near an organisation that actually spends money or signs contracts.

That's not entirely accurate. They were born prior to or early in his 2016-17 season where he proceeded to perform brilliantly.

true, man goalies are scary though. Talbot looked like the real deal during his first year for you guys and then the wheels just completely came off.

And I don’t want ex Oilers anywhere near this team in a management position....it’s 2019 it’s time they act like it too

He also played well for the Rangers when he had to take over starting duties....I do blame Talbot for some of his failures but it’s fair to say the team in front of him failed him too....I’m really wondering how much of an effect starting 73 games that season had on him too....that’s a lot of games for someone who never had that work load

I thought they came along mid season. I was wrong. Oct 19. 1 great year, 2 meh since they came along. I hope nothing but the best for him in his future, but it was time to move on.
