See, I dislike the trade because you can sign a vet back up goalie. You don't need to trade for one at the expense of a young goaltender, no matter his health issues. It's not like anyone here is saying "God, I have to have Cam Talbot". We don't even know if we're making the playoffs and that window is closing. So the deal makes no sense, especially if we don't even come close.

The trade indicates thats he had no intention of resigning Stolarz or perhaps Stolarz wanted to test FA. I doubt it because reports say Flyers wanted to trade Elliott instead. It is basically a UFA for UFA deal. Stolarz isnt going to play 10 games. Edmonton is in a bit of a pickle now because their starter and backup now have a combined 55 NHL games played.

That's the issue with Ghost is what you do with him is tied directly to how other defensemen play. Right now you can't get rid of him unless it is a deal that improves the team in other areas.

He makes 4.5m to basically fire one-timers from the point on the PP. He can play defense well like he showed last year, but that was because he was spending less time in his zone. No matter who he plays with if he gets hemmed in he can be taken advantage of.

Provorov needs to play 200% better, but will he turn it around. Sanheim is still making rookie mistakes and Myers hasn't even played an NHL game yet. I feel these guys play a huge role in how Ghost is handled.

That's not true. When Gostisbehere is on his game he is a strong defender in the neutral zone and at the blueline. That's where the game is won and lost. He is at a disadvantage in the corners and around the net and he has been laxed in his man to man coverage lately in the defensive zone. Don't do anything with Gostisbehere even if he continues to struggle the rest of the season.

I’m not advocating taking bad contracts that are beyond a year, instead the cap space wasted here in this trade could have been used for someone that will be a UFA.
