When we signed Elliot, like Talbot, he was also 31, without injury history.

The thing you hope for with Talbot, is that a coach won't run him into the ground the way Hakstol did with Elliot. And as long as Hart is healthy and performing to expectations, Talbot shouldn't see the ice that much.

- johndewar

Good point but as you say, Elliott came in to start. Talbot will be here to mentor and play maybe 20 games. I'm ok with it now that I have all the facts. Would have liked a pick from Edmonton because we basically got them out of a cap pickle, but maybe they don't want stollie either.

He even got a living, breathing hockey player for the corpse of Vinny Lecavalier and the Luke Schenn Experience.

For that, we were all truly grateful.

Plus the Pronger cap dump as well.

Hextall did an excellent job for early stages (cap management, drafting/prospects) and has to be given credit for SOME future success, which is why I would love to see him take the Edmonton job. He could do great things as long as he doesn't take 5,6 or 7 years to do it.

Hearing Mumblings that Leafs might be interested in one of our UFA goalies for some extra depth. Spoke with some Leaf fans and they seemed interested in Neuvirth. To be honest, it wouldnt be such a bad idea for some goalie depth. We have seen starters and backups go down at once many times in recent years. Teams could be looking at a #3 UFA guy just in case.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Another example that Leafs fans do not watch or follow anything else in the NHL besides their team. Why would they want Neuvirth? This is 3 straight years of knowing he will be injured, even the jokes are old knowing it is going to happen.

I think it’s an okay deal. I’m thinking of it as 1) an extended tryout for Talbot, he gets some games and Fletcher can see him up close to decide if a contract is worth it going forward. 2) we get a NHL goalie with no known health issues, which makes it possible to move Elliott to a team looking for goaltending depth and playoff experience.

Hart will not be playing 60 games next year. I'd be surprised at 50. 40-48 range more likely.

Other than the typical Philly fan response to complain first I don't get all the consternation over the Stolarz trade.

1. How much has he been hurt over the past 2 seasons?
2. Hart is clearly the man going forward and Talbot seems to have some good dynamic with him.
3. EA Sports agrees they should have gotten more for recently returned from another injury Stolie while the real world says this is what you get.

I explained why as a 3rd goalie option.....

It isnt like they are going to give us a 2nd round pick for him or anything. Just a mid round pick. A 4th or 5th to have an extra guy just in case.

If Fletcher is able to somehow unload Neuvirth for an asset, I'll take back everything I said about this trade today.

I like Stolie and hope he does well but losing him isn't what I dont like.

I think we did Edmonton a major favor, they were so cap crunched they couldn't even get Sekera off LTIR.

Also, I am not sold on Talbot. He could regain his form, but if God forbid Hart gets injured I don't know I want Talbot as the main guy. Yes, that's a big what if, but Talbot got outplayed by Koskinen this year.

Like I said in an earlier post, it's not the end of the world.

Neuvirth is on IR still, can barely play 2 games without getting injured again and his career is likely over in the NHL. He's not even a 7th goalie option...

Flyers couldn't get a wet sock for him. Toronto can have him for free NOW.

This is where I’m at too. Not that big of a deal but for me the cap space spent was a waste of an asset more then Stollie, together and I don’t like the deal. Flyers now have less options to take back contracts in TDL deals which could have potentially brought back more. That’s my biggest gripe.

@kennygarcon

Price is irrelevant because he is a UFA. Given the role he wont be resigned at his current cap hit. I liked Stolarz but he had health issues and he does only have 19 NHL games under his belt. Him and Hart is too much of a risk. Talbot should bounce back.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

See, I dislike the trade because you can sign a vet back up goalie. You don't need to trade for one at the expense of a young goaltender, no matter his health issues. It's not like anyone here is saying "God, I have to have Cam Talbot". We don't even know if we're making the playoffs and that window is closing. So the deal makes no sense, especially if we don't even come close.

I'm hoping for Hextall. His skill at unloading contracts is badly needed in Edmonton.

At some point the Flyers have to move away from taking back bad contracts. I personally think they're out of that phase. They have a lot of young players, plenty of prospects. Time to keep moving forward.

I imagine Milan Lucic collecting his check (or "cheque" for you Canadians) in a ski mask every week.

Dude is stealing money.

Want nothing to do with him as a Flyer.

Only if Edmonton takes Lehtera, MacDonald while giving up 2019 1st, 2020 1st and Yamo

FYI: I probably still wouldn't do it
