It's substantially less risk than the Koskinen deal, so I'm not entirely displeased. - Wildschwein
Next year we can trade you Lyon |

I mean with the way your defense is playing stoly propensity to give up super big juicy rebounds and the fact that you want a playoff push giving him 10+ games to keep him a rfa is a massive risk. |

You traded a guy that wasn’t part of your future. So did the Flyers. The only issue is Stolarz’s health. That and too this point he has only been able to appear in 19 NHL games in 7 pro seasons....late bloomer ? Maybe I guess. |

Maybe, Lyon might be traded in the offseason or claimed off waivers sometime next season. The Flyers have shown their hand. Lyon would be better off with a fresh start somewhere else just like Stolarz.
I’m fine with the Talbot move, considering how things played out this year. I would have liked an extra asset back, but I got to look at the bigger picture. This is fine.
BTW, best of luck Stolie. Hope you stay healthy and do good! |

I really do hope you get a competent gm. Clean up your mess. So much potential and so much wasted. I'd hate to see McDavid career turn into dan Marino of hockey. |

Edmonton could always sign him before he becomes a UFA. The trade may seem like a swap of goaltenders to audition for a spot next year, but I am sure both clubs have their intentions set before either one even plays a game. |

Do you see any goalie especially one who wants a future career in the NHL choosing Edmonton? |

So bill you don’t think the flyers Should have got a pick back for helping the oilers out?
If not why ? |

My comment was more of a stab at the signing of Koskinen than Lyon. I believe Lyon has one more year to showcase in the AHL and be the first one called up for an injury, so this trade works in his favor.
I would hope Sandstrom comes over next year to share time with Lyon for the Phantoms because I don't really want him handed the job as starter right away. |

To be fair, fans of 30 NHL teams say the same about the Flyers. |

McKenna or Lyon with sandstrom would be fine with me. Mayne McKenna could finally have career stability on an ahl deal with us |

And we failed at bringing in a top tier goalie except for a massive over pay of bryz... we had to draft and develop our own. |

Well the great news and it's been a long time since I was able to say this, but goaltending is the least of my concerns right now.
Time for the young kids to start taking the next step, win some games and get the best players to play like the best players more consistently.
I really like Fletchers approach since coming in though,it's like he is going down a list of all the players and asking himself "Does this player have a future here" then dealing with them appropriately. |

This trade aside, I do like Fletcher's approach so far. |

I'm hoping for Hextall. His skill at unloading contracts is badly needed in Edmonton. |

I agree. The impartial view of the franchise is nice. And I like where it's going. Honestly I think we just need more pure skill at this point and to continue to replenish prospects instead of emptying the farm for one run. Continue to develop the kids. That's why panarin stone duchene someone like that is so appealing. Bit tired of hard working 200 ft players. Give me some pure skill. |

I personally wanted the guy from Columbus for us. His drafting resume is actually better than hexy and he did amazing with USA hockey and the Columbus farm team. Led them to a Calder cup. He also is very beloved by players and agents as an ex agent himself. One thing I think hextall struggled with. |

He even got a living, breathing hockey player for the corpse of Vinny Lecavalier and the Luke Schenn Experience.
For that, we were all truly grateful. |

Price is irrelevant because he is a UFA. Given the role he wont be resigned at his current cap hit. I liked Stolarz but he had health issues and he does only have 19 NHL games under his belt. Him and Hart is too much of a risk. Talbot should bounce back. |

When we signed Elliot, like Talbot, he was also 31, without injury history.
The thing you hope for with Talbot, is that a coach won't run him into the ground the way Hakstol did with Elliot. And as long as Hart is healthy and performing to expectations, Talbot shouldn't see the ice that much. - johndewar
Good point but as you say, Elliott came in to start. Talbot will be here to mentor and play maybe 20 games. I'm ok with it now that I have all the facts. Would have liked a pick from Edmonton because we basically got them out of a cap pickle, but maybe they don't want stollie either. |

Hearing Mumblings that Leafs might be interested in one of our UFA goalies for some extra depth. Spoke with some Leaf fans and they seemed interested in Neuvirth. To be honest, it wouldnt be such a bad idea for some goalie depth. We have seen starters and backups go down at once many times in recent years. Teams could be looking at a #3 UFA guy just in case. |
