I don’t know if jake would fetch the Oilers 2nd straight up, I doubt it.
- golfingsince

I like Jake as a role player, don't see the point in trading him for a 2nd round pick. If that 2nd round player became a solid 3rd liner that can help this team in the future, I'd be satisfied, so I don't see the point of it.

If Jake was an older player, I'd 100% look to move him for a pick.

👏👏👏 I don’t understand all the negative comments, Gagner wasn’t playing for the Canucks or Comets, wasn’t even remotely contributing anything to the organization, and Benning severs ties and gets a player that can contribute to possibly either team in the organization.

Seriously, there are people complaining

yeah, essentially you'd be trading jake for a guy who has a chance to be jake... doesn't make much sense. I'd prefer to trade him for a similar younger guy in the same situation but on D.

I’m not looking to trade him for a 2nd, just saying there’s no way he nets you Jesse P and a 2nd. I don’t think he nets you the 40thish pick in the draft either.

Jake has been placed on IR but still in SJ

Definitely not a concussion then, otherwise he'd be on the plane.

Not much power in that power forward either. we should focus on drafting brainpower forwards.

I only backread a couple of pages before posting which is when the trade was made official. Looks like only minivan had an issue with the actual trade.

Are you guys desperately looking for freakouts/hysteria that doesn't even exist yet again? I thought we moved past this man, you're a better poster than this.

The "omg hysteria" crowd has ironically become the most hysterical group of posters on this site these days. Crying about posts that don't even exist

I said Spooner is a bad player, but I like the move. If that offends you then I'm not sorry.

I refuse to care about pom pom feelings.

- Nucker101

Good. (frank) feelings. Hopefully Jake is on a flight around the world as we speak

Not really. I think you trade for a 2nd round pick trying to uncover the next Keith,Weber,Subban,Josi etc.

Drafting D is a completely different animal IMO. So many great D found in the 2nd round.

A lot of great defenders/forwards/goalies get picked in round 2. I like JV and would rather keep him for what he brings, but just saying.

I'd rather try to move a player like Sutter for a 2nd round pick then. Even if it's a 3rd round pick for Sutter, you can then use that 3rd rounder as ammo to move back up into the 2nd.

I get that, but it doesn't make much sense to me to trade Virtanen out of all players for a draft pick. Guys like Tanev and Sutter, sure.

A player who's actually similar to Sven that could replace him is Marcus Johansson. Both playmaking wingers.

Like I said, I’m not trying to move Jake for a 2nd. I just don’t think you acquire a 2nd round pick and hope you find a Virtanen.

As for Sutter, i’d trade him for Cap Space. He’s gonna be a keeper.

Probably one of the few reasons Benning was extended was because of his drafting . So I really don't see him trading the 5 th over all OJ or the 6 th over all Jake for a second round pick. THe fan and media outrage would have him fired within a week.

I think if either do get traded it would be for very decent prospects . If not, then live with your mistake and keep Jake as a 3 rd line player.

A wild-card spot is within reach against the Sharks, and my thoughts on the trade and the state of the Oilers. Here's the new blog:
