I disagree . If he wanted to play with better players then he should continue playing for the Marlies

I'd taken Gaunce over Spooner no joke - Nucker101
Perhaps Benning will do the right thing and Leivo Gaunce away to give him a chance in another org. |

That was meant to be more of a shot at how Spooner sucks. Gaunce has already cleared waivers this season
Spooner should be a nice player for Utica unlike Gagner |

yeah can't get there yet on that one. Spooner has at least shown that playing with the right players (in BOS) he can succeed at this level. Gaunce hasn't really shown any of that. |

Plan is for Canucks to call up Ryan Spooner after this road trip. They get a player who may help them in the NHL for one, Sam Gagner, who was done in Vancouver. Fresh start for both

So I guess The Draftist group doesn't like this trade?
You guys do know how tanking works , right? |

So was Hodgson in Vancouver.
And even Wellwood that one year when everyone was shocked how a fatty from a bad team like the Leafs was able to center a 3rd line on a playoff team in the West with Bernier and Demitra on his wings.
These guys can survive playing on good teams with easy minutes, they get exposed on bad teams. Spooner is a decent playmaker, but other than that he's useless.
Like I said, good deal for the Canucks tank or the Comets so I'm cool with it. |

Spooner had 3 decent seasons averaging 45 pts in 15 min of icetime before languishing in Edm. Pretty similar to Gagner's career numbers actually.... I like the trade and if Benning can shed some garbage from his NHL roster I wouldn't mind seeing if Spooner could re-establish himself in the NHL. Hes really (frank)ing slow iirc though.
Granlund and Schaller should never play in the top 6 again IMO. |

I have a strong bias against guys who aren't that big or fast in the lineup unless it's a dude like Boeser who's got high end talent to make up for it.
That's why I'm a "hater" of guys like Granlund, Pouliot, Spooner, Gagner, etc. Average sized/lighter players who don't have "+" speed by NHL standards.
But it's a love-hate thing, I love them as tank commanders but it also worries me that Benning and co. like these guys.
Granlund and Schaller are fine in top 6 roles |

It's a no Risk move... Benning can see most of his forward group are not very creative with the puck. Good finishers... terrible passers. Bringing in a guy down on his luck has worked before for Benning ( Baertchi , leivo Granlund and goldobin to a certain extent) if he can regain his form , and there is no reason why he can't ( honestly who's game has improved since being traded to the tire fire known as Oilerville) he could be a real valuable piece here. Lot of wingers here that can't get the puck in the right places and at the right time in my opinion |

I have no issue with that as long as he it doesn't mean Gaudette or Zach go back down.

Canucks are down a couple of players with injuries . I look at this like calling up Kero or Boucher. If the guy works , fine , if not fine.

My thought is about the same...though a 2nd coming back with Pul would make it interesting in a Virtanen trade. I’ve been pulling for Jake, but have started to doubt he will ever be able to become an impact player. Has the tools, lacks the drive / sense.
Puljujari is completely lost in Edmonton, but I think still has a lot of potential. I’d happily do a straight trade for Goldy. Jesse is bigger, faster and had a scoring touch, at least until he joined the Oilers. He’s a project, but I still see more upside than Goldy...who actually would be an upgrade (this year) for the Oilers. - SlightlyOffside
I don’t know if jake would fetch the Oilers 2nd straight up, I doubt it. |

Maybe not...and honestly there is no way the Oilers should / would consider Goldy as anywhere near “value” for Jesse...but Oilers have demonstrated their drafts aren’t worth sh&t, other than McDavid!

👏👏👏 I don’t understand all the negative comments, Gagner wasn’t playing for the Canucks or Comets, wasn’t even remotely contributing anything to the organization, and Benning severs ties and gets a player that can contribute to possibly either team in the organization.
Seriously, there are people complaining |
