I thought Brisebois did just fine, and Travis Green seemed to concur:

Green on Brisebois: "You know what, I was happy with his game. Surprisingly happy. I hadn't seen him really for a long time, even in practice. He looked comfortable, his skating was noticeable, I thought he moved the puck well. Couple tough breaks but I was happy with his game."

Thanks for this analysis, last night as I watched Brisebois I thought he did ok also, then to see criticism and manvan post someone else's assessment that they were basically underwhelmed I thought, wow what a tough crowd.

I guess with the impact that both Boeser and Pettersson had on team maybe people are expecting all rookie players to have the same impact.

BTW, great blog again.

When he raced to the bench after losing his helmet I went wtf is he doing , how did you like the attempted save by marky with hagelins stick in his hand, never seen that before frank I laughed.
- Bettmanhatesus

?

Did Markstrom pull Hagelins stick out of his hand and use it? That would be a penalty...

Luke Schenn called up to make Gudbranson look like a serviceable Dman. Not a bad strategy before the TDL.

the puck was already by him, hagelin was bumping him and behind him, it would have been goalie interference anyways but marky just made it obvious.

I think the canucks have a fine development system. For 20 years now the development system has produced when given players who can be developed.

Cooke - 144th
Ruutu - 68th
Bieksa - 151st
Kesler - 23rd
Edler - 91st
Schneider - 26th
Raymond - 51st
Hutton - 147th

Other than Kesler and Schneids, the rest were unknown commodities who were developed into NHL players by a canuck system.

Horrific drafting has handcuffed the staff responsible for getting players ready for NHL hockey. If you look at the number of players drafted who have played less than 20 NHL games, its unbelievable.

It's not like these players went on to have good NHL careers with other teams. They just didn't have the stuff to even get there. Nobody was able to develop these players into serviceable professionals. Considering the watered down quality of a 30 team league... again unbelievably bad choices.

i dont think hes hurt i think he was pointing out the difference of expectation/criticisms which is valid. ive been wondering the same thing when i read about goldy and gaudette. boeser and petey set a very high bar and its easy to get caught up in seeing results quickly from the new guys

I didnt expect him to set the league on fire. I never said that. all I said was deer in headlights. Its not very explanatory and can be taken anyway. He needs more seasoning, no one questioned that but when in his own zone, he looked lost at times.

Has Schenn actually improved or just playing at a lower level of competition for the first time since his NHL career started.

"manvan post someone else's assessment "

i never saw it but i dont think he was criticizing your post, your take sounds fairly reasonable. though i think the canucks should be giving more of these tastes to their prospects and more frequently. gaudette looks 10x better than the beginning of the year, demko got his taste last year, boeser had his 9 gm trial, etc.

Makita thought that Brisebois "showed composure" during the game and thought I was being harsh, so I found someone else's assessment of his game before Green's comments. He didn't really think the other one was fair either it seems.

I wasn't even arguing his opinion, his and mine are different. Not everyone is going to see things in the same light.

I hope to see Brisebois be a steady defender for Van for years.

I thought Bries looked just fine. He looked like a rookie playing his first game. He looked like a smart player that learns from mistakes. I liked his composure . He is a good puck mover and will get a lot better with experience.

These kids they are bringing up look ready to try to fit in . They look prepared .

All the more reason to start to part ways with other players, unfortunately they know that and somehow injure themselves so they can't be moved

I'm not hurt, more dumbfounded over said opinion. And I was just making an observation that both Carol and Green (bestest coach in Canucks history apparently) thought that Brisebois was just fine.
