Crazy thing about this game, Rangers scored 6 goals and the top line had nothing

Cam Talbot trade officially completed this early morning hour, with him heading back East to the Flyers in exchange for goalie Anthony Stolarz.
Carter Hart must have really had a great say for that deal to come down, but a few weeks too late for Rangers fans hoping for them to make a playoff push. That, after Stolarz stoned them back then in that last match up in a 1-0 Flyers win, despite the Rangers out shooting Philly 38-19 in SOG that game at MSG. Had he remained in Philly, they would have likely faced him in their one more match up left this season. But they still may do so anyway, when they play at Edmonton on their trip to Western Canada later on.

Larry Brooks column:

There has been a shift in the dynamic as the Rangers approach the Feb. 25 trade deadline.

The Post has learned that general manager Jeff Gorton is now engaged in an ongoing dialogue with the agents for pending free agents Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes as the Blueshirts weigh extending the contracts of two of their best players against the return they might get for either or both on the market.

Cap considerations for 2019-20 and beyond are also a major part of the equation. There is, we are told, considerable distance between the parties, but that is to be expected as the negotiating process with each player is in a relatively early stage. The Blueshirts appear to have approximately $25 million with which to work next season, though the team could clear approximately $7.5 million of space by buying out Kevin Shattenkirk and Brendan Smith. Signing Hayes and Zuccarello would likely amount to between $11.5-and-$12 million

Larry's out of his mind on the buying out Shattenkirk idea, or he just didn't realize it

in 2020-21, Shatty would have a 6 million cap hit:

I don't understand how a one for one trade like this takes "days and days of negotiations"

this is going to change everyday

wouldn't be surprised if Rangers are happy to put this out there to make potential suitors panic that we arent trading them

in other words, maybe some leverage in trade negotiations
