They traded him to a division rival who paid a premium and I'm not totally sure Rykov will be better than an AHL lifer.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers got a first, but I think it would ultimately be from a legitimate contender and probably around pick 25. There isn't a GM in the world who's going to give up a top prospect for him though.

If Chia has taught us anything, it's that you never know what these GMs will do. Zucc shouldn't bring a 1st, but given his recent play who knows if someone will be stupid and give up a good prospect.

If Garth Snow was still in charge I could see it.

He then went on to literally rip off Elliotte Friedman's exact words from the opening of his 31 Thoughts 2 days ago

A late 1st isn't out of the question for him. But picks are picks and they're total crap shoots that late. I won't be surprised if someone like the Jets give up their 1st for him.

But he's not going to fetch someone's top prospect, where there's far less risk, he's just not dynamic enough. He's a real solid player, but I don't think he's pushing anyone over the hump into 'major-contender' status.

So keeping Zucc until he's 36 with a contract noth of 5 million dollars is better than 2 cost controlled assets? Don't think so.

Much rather overpay zuuc and xtra year, knowing what he brings on/off the ice than an unknown draft pick that might never play and NHL game and an unknown prospect who could end up being worth less than a bag of pucks.

Every NHL team in history has a guy or two on roster who was given a contract that overpaid him a year or so b/c of what he brought at time the contract was signed. Zuuc has at least 3 good seasons in him. If he can sign a 4 year deal for a team friendly deal (approx 6 mill) than Im fine with that.

Yeah the Rangers have 3 guys that are overpaid in Smith, Staal and Shattenkirk. He's a time 20 goal scorer. Is he fan favorite, yeah. Fan favorites get traded all the time. Zucc's intangibles didn't help this team last year and haven't helped this year. It's over move on.

He brings that now, what will he bring in 2-3 yrs? Callahan is barely an NHL player at this point, imagine had we used that reasoning on him?

If you mean someone's top prospect, you are right. I think Zucc can bring a good prospect.I actually think the Zucc, Simmonds, et al tier will get tons of action during trade deadline. People will be scared off by the price of the bigger names.

Oilers had discussion with Markus Lehto, agent for Jesse Puljujarvi today. Team is open to trading him if a proper return can be found, and in the meantime an AHL stint to help boost offence and confidence is being considered. No decisions yet.

Imagine having the most talented player in the world and surroudning him with crap. God I love the Oilers.

I want to pry Puljujarvi from them. I'm not even sure he would cost that much.

I remember the look on McDavid's face when it was announced the Oilers had won the lotto. He couldn't have known they wouldn't be good, but he had a pretty good idea what was going to happen.

So we should be against signing any 31 yr. old to a contract? Zuuc play a different game than Cally. if Zuuc is asking for a 5-6 year deal w/ a NMC like Cally, then good bye.

Yes, I think Zuuc will be good for 3 yrs. Like I said, chalk up his 4th contract year as a throw away for his leadership.

In general terms, yes. Odds are stacked against signing ANY 31 yr old to a contract and it working out. Are there exceptions? Sure. This team probably isn't competitive for 2-3 more seasons. Nothing is guaranteed, but by then you hope guys like Kravstov are your top line wingers. Paying 4-5 million for what could be a third/fourth line winger in a couple seasons seems irresponsible.

You can hear the narrator "Mcdavid thought about it for a second, and then thought to himself that it could work, the team will get better. It did not get better."

#Badgers leading scorer K'Andre Miller probably will miss next weekend's series at Penn State as well. He might be able to return for the final weekend of the regular season but the more likely scenario is the first round of the playoffs.

That I agree with. And just to be clear, I'm not saying Zuke is terrible and will get a crap return. I could see him getting something like a 2nd and a B-level prospect. That's a nice haul for him. I just don't agree with anyone who thinks he's worth a higher-end prospect.
