I wouldn’t do that. He’s been mediocre since coming to the NHL/AHL. 8 G 10 A in 35 games in the AHL. Had a brief 7 game stint in the NHL. He’s a good prospect for sure but I don’t know why we would add a 2nd when he’s kind of an unknown. He had tremendous hype after the olympics but has been decent since. I would absolutely take him for Zucc but wouldn’t add a 2nd.

He is a perfect 3rd/4th liner. Good on defense can pot a couple and has some skill, not a liability. More for TJ, but you can't have 4 lines of superstars

Hang onto him for another year and hope he figures it out. I don’t think his 3.1 million cap hit will stop us from signing a big name guy.

As opposed to Strome, why not buy out Smith's contract instead, in having 3 now killer contracts on the back line (along with Shatty's and Staal's), which could prevent a Lindgren if NHL ready for good by next season from having a roster spot?
Or how about even trading Smith if the deal breaker is being forced to retain 50% of his total $8.7M due him over the next two seasons. That, despite the fact that teams can only retain money simultaneously on a maximum of two contracts? It would also save the Rangers slightly over $2M than the cap hit charge total of buying him out over a 4 year term.
Either means will benefit them also due to Girardi's $3.61M cap hit lowering to just $1.1M beginning next season for its final 3 years.
Or, I would do the same in retaining money if necessary if having a buyer first for Shatty, with Shatty's $10.43M overall 4 years term buyout charges costing $1.43M higher overall than Staal's, and slightly over $4M more than Smith's. Each player has 2 years remaining on their contracts.

If we could just get a taker for Shattenkirk all our buyout problems would be solved. I really like ADA’s game lately, think he could be a solid 2nd pair guy.
