I think as great a player McDavid is he seems to play only for himself and his individual stats. He isn't a leader that works hard on both ends but after the game, which is usually a loss he says all the right things. The difference between him and Crosby who is a real leader, is that Crosby plays with average wingers and makes them better while McDavid has to play with the Oilers best players to satisfy his need to look good. That's why the Oilers need to trade some of their so called top players for real leaders to show players like McD what it takes to work hard and to win. - islansjet

Face it, JP is a bust.
All teams have them, hell , we had two first rounders in the same draft who were busts, Tyler Biggs and Surat Percy.
Just move on from the guy, he doesn't have it. |

I think every GM in the league would line up to give away their first born for McDavid. |

Or send him back down for thirty games plus their playoffs and work hard on him in training camp. |

Kronwall is our oldest. Does that work in a trade? |

Or keep him and develop him into a 3rd liner which he certainly has the toolkit for. The Oilers have traded away far too many useful young players that didn't meet their lofty and often unrealistic expectations (Schultz, Petry and Cogliano to name a few). I'd argue it's not so much that he "doesn't have it" but more that he "doesn't have what you'd hoped, but still has something". Maybe it'd be wise to approach his development from a different angle and get him the proper support to do that.
Maybe it'd wiser to test the market to see what you can get out of him. Tough to say. I've floated the Puljujarvi for Coyle idea before as a comparable to the Paajarvi for Perron deal a ways back, but there's some question marks around a deal like that. |

An entire top line for McDavid. Hmmm
Our top line would be McDavid, Mantha, and Abdelkader.

You can’t compare those two to Puljujarvi. They didn’t have any of the raw skills he has and for that reason they were only drafted in the first round because of Burkie.
Dylan Strome was labeled a bust but he looks like a player now. |

I feel like that is what would happen if Puju got traded.....not on the level of Strome right away but a couple of years down the road....he would only be 22 at that point

I would be quite pleased if the Leafs got Puljujarvi. I think he needs sort of a babysitter to help him out. Toronto could find a Finish candidate who speaks both languages who would fit the bill. |

I would love to have Kapanen and I’m aware you guys don’t want to let him go I’m just wishing out loud.....I believe Koskenin is a Finn so JP does have an option unless you meant someone who isn’t a goalie

I think he needs more help than most young players. Maybe a Leo Komarov type. As for Kapanen we might have to trade him if he wants a fat contract but you guys have cap issues too. |
