Either of those and it's more coming back to us as Edmonton is dumping Talbot. It's great having cap space as an asset for trading...
- dragonoffrost

Is Edmonton desperate to clear cap...or just to get an asset back for Talbot since he will be a UFA?

Would you trade Frost and a D prospect for Panarin, just a hypothetical here.

The rumor of Talbot for Elliott strike me as either off or remarkably early. Elliott hasn’t even gotten a game in his conditioning stint yet. Some have suggested that McKenna or Stolarz would go to Edmonton. For both of those guys, they won’t be straight up deals.

Yeah it's the normal look at teams, come up with scenarios that make some sense then tag an unknown source. Repeat.

Lots of ways to go about it that doesn’t involve trading Talbot....it comes down to he is a pending UFA and if we aren’t resigning him then we will deal him....it’s no different then anyone else who is a pending UFA that the team might not resign

We don't need a goalie though... Even a backup. This deal is being driven on the Edmonton side.

As such if I'm Fletch I'm going to hold them over a barrel.

Elliott and cap space for Talbot, Spooner and Edmonton's 2019 1st. Now you got your space to do whatever by getting an annual salary savings of about 4 Million.

That puts Fletcher at an advantage. If Talbot is the target, they shouldn’t have to give up much to get him. They may be able to get someone or another asset in the process.

You won't get a 1st but I am hoping for something like maybe a prospect like Tyler Benson or maybe a 3rd rounder. You need to get something if your helping them out.

Then tell your GM to not do the deal obviously the Flyers have interest or there wouldn’t be a discussion....you know it takes two to have a discussion right? If you did then you would grasp that your GM has interest....I couldn't care less if Talbot gets traded or not he is gone after the season regardless and it’s not like he is going to get a great return

I should be at Sunday’s game. TBD. It’s nice seeing that we’re somewhat healthy. Ideally Myers will play this weekend and Mac site but truth be told, Ghost has been horrendous.

In other news, Simmonds sucks but I expect the highest prospects and highest draft picks as a return for him.

It's about the market man. Tatar last year got a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Also, again for the thousandth time, most people on here don't think Simmonds sucks. We just think he isn't worth his next contract and so we want to get assets for him before he leaves. Why is this so hard for you- oh right it doesn't fit the narrative you've created.

Edmonton is taking back an injury prone goalie and giving Hart someone that isn't a career backup and will be with the team at least until the end of the season. IMO the Oilers have a slight advantage because of the injuries and the goalie log jam... no-one else is taking Elliot off our hands.

Do you even know what the word narrative means?

Wonder if Simmonds producing points like a 4th liner at 5on5 is noticeable to pro scouts?

If only they would just look at goals/60 and pretend assists weren't points too, the Flyers could get a much better return.

If you say so.

We have a glut of goalies... Elliott/Stolarz/McKenna/Lyon. Most here are ok with starting next year with Hart/Stolarz as the duo and I think Fletcher is also. But he said earlier he has to listen to any and all deals for anyone not named Giroux. So he'd listen on a Talbot coming to Philly deal.

I would be ok with Hart-Stolie for the rest of the season, but not into next year. Stolie is injury prone, and I think he still needs to work on shots up high, especially glove side. I would be much more comfortable with Talbot being the back-up split starter.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to Talbot coming here, but we do have a log jam of promising young goalies in our system, so who moves out if Talbot comes back in a trade? I'd hate to see Stolie not in our plans for next year. He's played well and could easily be a very capable backup for a year or two. If he didn't have injury issues, I think keeping him on our NHL roster next year would be a much easier decision for Fletcher.
I do see logic in getting Elliott out of town, just because father time is catching up to him and he's more of a liability because of that. He'd be a great mentor for Hart if he was healthy and not going through issues with his groin and hip.

Is Morgan Frost the real thing. Did we luck out on a late 1st round pick. We'll see soon. Probably this year, he plays some pre-season games.

If so, Frosty, score some goals, you could make the team. Simmonds and Raffel will be gone, two spots

There is almost 0% chance that Hart-Stolarz is the duo for next year. Firstly, Stolarz has played ok, but there are obvious flaws in his game, and if Hart went down for any amount of games, then your relying on an injury prone goalie that has obvious holes in his game.

Second Hextall was eventually fired for not getting a solid goalie for this year, I'm sure Fletcher will want to cover his arse and get a goalie.

What I see next year is...

Hart-Veteran back-up like Talbot or Howard.

I feel like the biggest factor for the Talbot trade would be Fletcher wanting to break the most goalies started in a season record.

Let me give you an example of a narrative...

If my team trades my favorite player then that means they are giving up. The reason why this narrative is so good is because it allows justification on either outcome while putting the full blame on the team, fans and media if I don't get my desired outcome. It also allows me to distract everyone from the team and focus on the individual as the most important part.

Rule 1: Never, I repeat never, focus on the current production, always find a way to discuss previous achievements or alternate universe possibilities.

Rule 2: Always find something else to put the blame on, never the player. Injuries, coach usage and who they play with are go to excuses. If someone brings up other players in same situation just ignore it and hope people forget about logic. I mean most coaches hate to utilize players to their best of their abilities and have success because then that would make them look good.

Rule 3: Always flip, keep flipping and flip before anyone flips you. If you keep saying then it is bound to come true or eventually others will believe you. If you believe the narrative others will be forced to.

When all else fails...

I could be ok with that. I'm guessing we would be taking Lucic with Edmonton retaining half. It seems fair and probably best for Hart... Someone he already knows and likes and can be a split duty goalie.

- youarewrong

Why would the Flyers even consider taking Lucic?
