Agreed, Talbot is a rental/mentor with a possibility of re-signing. Edmonton gets all the benefit there because they get what they need...extra cap space.

For someone to take Lucic Edmonton would have to offer something that made the fans scream NO WAY. Anything short of that is not worth it.

One main problem about Lucic, besides being Lucic, is the magic number 4. 4 MORE years, whether that is 6 million, 4 million or 3 million...very bad.

Getting Talbot early to possibly re-sign is not too valuable. Elliott for Talbot alone is a wash based on just cap savings.

So the question is what is Edmonton willing to give up so the pain of having his contract on the books 2,3 and 4 years down the line is tolerable? Certainly not a mid pick or prospect, you can get them without having to take on Lucic.

Edit: Also add a NMC clause to that which affects value as well. There is a big reason Lucic is still on Edmonton.

You don’t need to take Lucic I’m not even the one that brought it up....I would have been happy with a low round pick or a back up in return for Talbot so we don’t have to call up one of our younger goalies.....if we were all GMs then I could have gotten rid of Lucic by now....some Red Wings fans would do a Yamamoto, 2020 1st and Lucic for Nyquist....so really I don’t care if you guys take Lucic.....as far as Talbot goes I’ll happily take on Elliot without anything else being added

It’s not 5.5 that’s the cost at the beginning of they year....he is currently owed 1.5 mil for the rest of this season

Cap is based off daily accrue, I don't think they need the full 5.5m

That's why I asked if it gets them what they need. I know Elliot's deal is about 1.5 Million less per year than Talbots.

The rumor of Talbot for Elliott strike me as either off or remarkably early. Elliott hasn’t even gotten a game in his conditioning stint yet. Some have suggested that McKenna or Stolarz would go to Edmonton. For both of those guys, they won’t be straight up deals.

Either of those and it's more coming back to us as Edmonton is dumping Talbot. It's great having cap space as an asset for trading...
