Most likely. Aside from maybe Nashville though I can't see many of the contenders having any space to sign them. Winnipeg, Toronto and Tampa all have major commitments to make this summer. You could argue that San Jose has dollars but with the Kane/Karlsson trades, what young assets do they have to give? Calgary may have space to resign one of them too I guess.
- Bolts91

Who says they both have to be traded to the same team? Many teams could sign one. Vancouver, Arizona and Vegas could sign both. And Arizona could sign both despite having over $20 million on Robidas Island.

He's struggling this season in Washington and is due a $3.25 million qualifying offer if the Caps want to retain his rights. With their cap situation, it's not clear that they can afford to pay for a player who isn't performing up to his potential.

They could choose not to qualify him, then offer him a more reasonable contract to try and get him to stay, but at that point he'd be competing with 30 other teams.

- tkecanuck341

He's gone for sure, Cap won't take that chance.

That's true big difference though is that ari didn't have to pay Datsyuk he was just a cap hit for a floor team. Callahan's contract is real money.
- HealthyScratch6

That is true. It'll be interesting to see how Tampa proceeds with him. They can buy him out in the summer and spend just over 2 million over the next two seasons or try to do like the Jets did with Mason and the Habs. His NTC probably makes the buyout the likeliest of options.

I didn't say that. I'm talking about teams that will trade assets for them before the deadline. Arizona and Vancouver aren't going to trade the farm away when they are unlikely to make the playoffs. McPhee has said that he isn't trading for a rental. Ottawa would insist on getting Glass for either player and there is no way McPhee would go there. Not saying they can't take a stab at them this summer.

Cool. I wonder how many of Ek's "sources" tell him to "know his role and shut his mouth?"

On another note, Edmonton’s goalie (Koskinen) is just brutal. Didn’t they extend that guy for something in the neighborhood of 3.25 mil per? Was that one of Chiapets last deals, or was that a current, temp GM deals? Reactions, tracking, positioning, all just brutal. No wonder they’re fading in the West.

If the Pens trade Kessel they should trade Malkin and Crosby too for 7 first round picks.

Yes, pretty sure it was Chia's last gift before he was fired the next (frank)ing day.

Why they had him making deals a day before they fired him? Well, Edmonton.

Upon further investigation, I think he was fired 2 days later (or really late at night 1 day later). Oh, and the average annual salary for the extension is actually 4.5m over 3 years.

The Pens are so screwed. Crosby and Malkin are being offer sheeted this summer.

No, no. This is a good thing for them. If a baker's dozen is now twelve, then doesn't that make a regular dozen 11? They can now sell 11 eggs as a dozen and charge the same price!

Although all recipes that call for a dozen of anything will now need to be modified, so this is terrible news for all cook book manufacturers.

But noone uses books anymore, so who cares!

Although online recipe sites may need to make changes.

Have to admit, I didn’t think he would be a starter in the NFL.

Kypreos is a jackass. Put Stone on any other team and Tampa will still be the cup favorite. The year they have, the consistency, the domination.... We haven't seen this in awhile in the nhl

I thought that was pretty stupid too. Stone is a good player, sure, but it's not like he's a superstar who's mere presence is going to vastly alter the landscape of potential cup contenders.

So Raddysh, Foote, Erne, Callahan, 2020 1st and 2021 1st?
- Bolts91

Since they refused to include Foote in a McDonaugh trade, it dont see the highest scoring team in the league including him in a blockbuster for more scoring. They wont be able to resign them. If they do this deal and dont win the cup, they have nothing to trade for assets in the future.

Keep Cally for this run, he can still be useful at what he does. Get rid of him in the summer, his salary is $4.7m which is a bit easier to digest then the $5.8 cap.

IF they where going for Stone, a player like Miller/Palat would go the other way. Maybe even both. They would have to move out salary to resign him. A player for that cost you dont just trade for as a rental.

I dont think TB adds anything significant this deadline. Maybe a Alex Edler type defensemen, but not much else.

While I would wet myself if the Flames would be able to acquire 1.) Stone or 2.) Duchene, re-signing either would require some serious black magic (frank)ery from Treliving. Re-signing Tkachuk is gonna start with a 7 or 8 and the only big salary coming off the books is Mike Smith. A lot of depth pieces could be moved (Frolik, Jankowski, Bennett, Czarnik, Ryan, etc.) but those obviously have to be replaced. The James Neal contract is what is gonna hurt the most. 5.75 for the next 4 seasons... (frank) me.

I don't think Eberle is going anywhere unless he was a player sent to say CBJ or FLA as part of a deal to bring in an NHL player in a package. He too is a rental and I can't see the Isles parting with him for the hell of it. He is producing and unless the Isles got something major back there is no reason to do it because even though Andrew Ladd is about to return, he hasn't shown in his Islanders career to be consistent and he is an injury waiting to happen.

Yeah this hasn't been done since 2013 when the Blackhawks just dominated everyone.

Tampa Bay is a notch above the rest and if they keep playing this way, nobody really stands a chance in a 7 game series.
