I just love you jabrones who act like you know how Simmonds would perform in any particular situation. It takes different types of talent and intangibles that make the chemistry work on a cup winning team. Too much, or too many of any particular type and you become predictable and easy to play against. I’m not as arrogant to label a player as being unable to help a contender or not. I’ll let that up to the GM’s of contenders to do that. You should too! - Hokeeguy9

Anthony Cirelli, Cal Foote, Adam Erne, 2020 1st round pick and Ryan Callahan for Mark Stone and Matt Duchene.
You've got to be kidding BOLT ON TITTIES MAN !!
That's a facking joke dude. - paulozz
Stone and Duchene are both UFAs at season's end. Foote and Cirelli are top prospects. Erne is a top 9 forward. It's a fair deal. Not to mention that one or both very well may return to Ottawa this summer. |

Whoa dude, don’t talk like hockey is a dynamic sport played by human beings with brains. Simmonds points per minute in the third period on Thursday night games in the last 3 seasons is 136th in the NHL behind the Minnesota Wild’s 4th line right winger. You can take that to the bank - agame99

Cool. I wonder how many of Ek's "sources" tell him to "know his role and shut his mouth?" |

Both should get a 1st and good prospect back in return. So that's 2 1sts and 2 good prospects not one 1st 2 good prospects a cap dump and an bottom 6 player who they already have a full team of. |

Hey now. We're trying to win Tampa a Stanley Cup here. Only unrealistic lowball offers are allowed. Your common sense is not necessary! |

Why is Burakovsky available? This is the only place I have ever heard his name mentioned as a possibility to be moved but why would Washington do that? He is an RFA this summer so they don’t have to move him and I don’t understand why you keep mentioning his name.
EK, what have you heard that gives you the impression WASH wants/willing to move him? |

With the cap dump in there, you’d have to give another asset to OTT. So something like Raddysh, Foote, 2020 1st, 2021 1st, 2019 2nd. Even that doesnt feel like enough for Stone and Duchene AND salary cap relief. |

Fair enough.
It comes back down to quality vs quantity. In the Karlsson trade, Ottawa took quantity. Not sure both players will fetch two grade A prospects AND a first. I think a roster player plus two top prospects as well as a first round pick gets the conversation started. Another prospect may need to be added but I don't think it's that far off. |

Why would they take a cap dump and future picks when they could just trade them separately. Get 2019 picks good prospects and take on no salary. No one is looking to do Tampa a favor. Ottawa tried to add Bobby Ryan to the Karlsson deal because they're poor. They're not taking a cap dump.
I will say I like cal foote though. Was really hoping he'd fall to the leafs that year. |

Ottawa will get a higher return if Stone and Duchene are traded to teams that can sign them. Although Duh-rion is not the sharpest knife in the cupboard, shipping these two out as pure rentals would make a bad situation much worse.

If they are trading Ceci, Dzingel, Stone, Duchene and even possibly Boedker, they'll need players available to play. Not to mention dollars they will need to keep them above the floor. I agree that taking Callahan off of our hands is probably unlikely but I'm sure BriseBois will try. Also unlikely Callahan would waive his NTC for Ottawa. |

Callahan alone is responsible for Stamkos and Kutcherov both being underpaid. He's also a big reason why Point will be hard to sign. How likely is it that Point takes a deal for less than what Stamkos is making? Somebody's going to be butthurt. Getting rid of Callahan will not be cheap - first rounder for sure at minimum. Detroit coughed up the 16th pick to unload Datsyuk.

Most likely. Aside from maybe Nashville though I can't see many of the contenders having any space to sign them. Winnipeg, Toronto and Tampa all have major commitments to make this summer. You could argue that San Jose has dollars but with the Kane/Karlsson trades, what young assets do they have to give? Calgary may have space to resign one of them too I guess. |

Not really. They got the 20th pick back in return. Detroit went from 16th to 20th. They also gave Detroit a second. |

He's struggling this season in Washington and is due a $3.25 million qualifying offer if the Caps want to retain his rights. With their cap situation, it's not clear that they can afford to pay for a player who isn't performing up to his potential.
They could choose not to qualify him, then offer him a more reasonable contract to try and get him to stay, but at that point he'd be competing with 30 other teams. |

That's true big difference though is that ari didn't have to pay Datsyuk he was just a cap hit for a floor team. Callahan's contract is real money. |
