EP changed expectations and they are now playing meaningful games after the all-star break. That mission has been achieved.
to be honest, I don't see strong positional play (especially in the defensive zone) and the break-out / entry on the power play is so predictable it hurts. I'd like to think it is simply mistakes by the young guys, but see it with the more experienced players as well. If they can't execute some basics in their own end, the coaches need to simplify their systems.
I'd exclude Clarke's work with the goalies from this -- he's really helped Marky this year. - SlightlyOffside
We went from the most predictable PP entry to the... most predictable PP entry |

Really the problem goes back to the trading of Eddie Lack.
If we still had him in the system, we'd be better prepared. - dbot
The problem goes back to Corey hirsch. |

Carolina now projected for 94.2 points and have a 60% chance of making the playoffs.
If they played in the West, they’d be at 90%.

It's crazy how much the balance has shifted east in the last few years. |

Right! To have Pittsburgh as the second wild card shows how stacked the Metro has gotten over the last few years |

This is very true. East teams will also have much harder routes to make a SCF with this in mind, SJ i think may have the easiest path depending on how good you think the Flames are. Central, Atlantic and Metro will all be tough bracketts |

You would take SJ over the Jets?
The Jets seem a lock to finish as one of the top 5 teams in the league (probably Tampa, Jets, Toronto, Islanders, San Jose, Calgary) |

Only because they be more likely to have attrition issues i think. I also don’t think they are a slam dunk to beat SJ or Nsh in a series even if both teams are healthy. Both could go either way imo. |

I know the points are that close and we're one EP injury away from the basement but there's something about the teams drive to win this year that is much more impressive than years past.
In the last 3 seasons if we were down by even 1 goal going into the 3rd you might as well have just turned the TV off. This year we've had several comebacks and kept many games close where previously the guys would've flopped.
I guess what I'm saying is even though we've been here before I feel this is a stronger team and they will squeeze a few more points down the stretch - NorthNuck

I look at the conference as a whole, Canucks appear to be playing 500 hockey (and present standings show they are). But they are right in the thick of falling to the bottom.
But when i really look at the league, Vancouver is sitting in 20th place, a whole 6 pts over bottom 3-5 in the league. So I still believe that the bottom 5 is a very real possibility. - Makita

Really? Are you being serious or just a jab cause I think Green is overrated? |

Don't be too sure, with Green behind the bench he'll run with Tanev on his wrong side for 29mins and put Eriksson-Beagle-Motte out in all high risk situations.
Ok in all seriousness, it should be a close game between two poorly coached teams. - Makita
lol...so Marky was good to go vs the Sharks.

lol I stand by what I said. Maybe Marky needed the day off maybe not but if he plays tonight he was obviously good to go for the Sharks game. Chucking Dipietro to the Wolves was a coaching fu*ck up by Green plain and simple. It is what it is. |

If Ashton Sautner and Luke Schenn keep playing as well as they have together, they could end up being a “ready made” 3rd pair for the Canucks after the deadline for down the stretch if they happened to make moves on the backend. |
