If the McDavids beat the Hurricanes tonight, and the sabres win, the Sabres leapfrog Carolina with 1 game still in hand
- jcragcrumple

The McDavids are a sad sack of crap. They couldn't beat a dead horse.

Problem is, no one's giving up 4 first round picks for an RFA. Not even Kucherov. For everything else, the GM will likely have no problem matching, and all you did was irritate that GM. Either that, or GMs would rather put a package together than use their 1sts. The opposing GM isn't going to let a guy go over a measly 3rd or 2nd rounder.
- TheSabresTaco

Are u sure about that?

There’s some big time names available this year, and some teams with big time Cap issues

There’s “experts” on record (Friedman, Dreger, etc) who said they are hearing that GMs are EXPECTING offer sheets to actually happen this offseason

Some teams are ripe to be picked with an offersheet, their cap space is going to be extremely tight

Tampa and Toronto for one are going to be very tight.

A first, second, and third offer 6-8 million could do some real damage to a team

- Stripes77

But there's the thing. Toronto will poop gold bricks all over Marner. They will pull a Chicago and start clearing their complimentary players.

I am sure, because the last time it happened was 2012. We hear that poop every (frank)ing year. Prove me wrong. I hope they do.

Not to go full conspiracy theory, but the media is of course going to say that to drum up interest. The chances of a successful offer sheet are as low as they've ever ever been. It's been 11 years

I think we are still paying CoHo for another year or 2 also
Pretty sure it’s only like half a mil per though

- jdfitz77

You leave me out of this. Carry on.

Almost every player on Tampa, and basically all of the forwards, holds actual value. It's sickening. They will need to unload a 4-5 mil player or two. Tyler Johnson. Go fetch.

To fill out a 23 man roster, they will need to get rid of approx 8M. Callahan comes off the books a year later, and that money will be thrown right at Vasy.

Someone could offer sheet Kapanen or Johnsson on the Leafs at $4 mill per and really put them in a bind, it would only cost a 2nd round pick

Again...
why would they move guys like Johnson (or Miller) when they could just ship out Palat or Kilorn instead?

Because who the (frank) is paying 4.5M for Killorn or 5.3M for Palat? To get any kind of compensation worthwhile for the Lightning, their ask is going to have to pretty low, and they'll need to take salary back.

I don’t recall the media saying this stuff last year and before though
The tone seems to be changing

I’d bet it’ll happen
They won’t get anything but a low pick back
But teams like Ottawa for example, will be struggling to get decent NHL players & will need to get to the floor

Not sure anyone wants Johnsson for 4M. They'll re-sign Kap for 4 no problem. But (frank) Dubas, do it anyway.

Perhaps. I'm sure John Chayka is looking to absolutely fleece someone by moving up like 3 spots in the draft to take on dead weight.

(frank)ing idiot.

Not legit guys like Dreger & Friedman

Crap we see on rumor sites doesn’t count compared to hearing it from legit insiders

None of the owners want it. It's in their best interest not to do it. Maybe a rogue owner or a GM with a chip on his shoulder tries one, but it risks alienating a franchise. People talked about AZ sheeting Matthews, but considering AZ is on Maple Leaf welfare, that was neever going to happen. If we get 1 attempt, it wouldn't surprise me, but like I said, it's been 11 years since a successful one.

LeBrun was reporting it to be a real possibility that Chiarelli was going to offer sheet Dougie Hamilton when he was still in Boston. Just one example I can think of.
