I would trade for Tyler Johnson. He's extremely versatile, can win draws and can play anywhere in the top 9.

At 5M, he's a steal.

Here's what the Sabres can actually do, theoretically because offer sheets are unicorns. These are 2018 numbers cause lazy.

Offer:

$1,339,575 or less (no comp)
$1,339,576 to $2,029,659 (3rd) - Sheary must not hit 20g or 40 points and Hunwick must not be traded
$4,059,323 to $6,088,980 (1st & 3rd) - Same as above
Over $10,148,302 (4 1sts) - Anyone pay the next 4 year's 1st round picks for Brayden Point or Sebastian Aho? Cause that's the only offer sheet that, were they to actually exist, have a remote chance of actually completing

This isn’t accurate
We can offer sheet at ANY of the compensation levels this offseason

Sure...
but wouldn’t Tampa want to move Palat or Kilorn (similar cap hits) instead?

We sure can as long as Sheary doesn’t hit 20g and we don’t trade Hunwick(as previously stated).

Otherwise that 4th to Pittsburgh becomes a third and you must use your picks for an offersheet.

Isn't FA after the draft? So wouldn't the compensation picks be for 2020 draft?

None of that matters
It doesn’t affect potential offer sheets we’d sign

False

We do not have a 2020 3rd due to the Skinner trade

It's almost like offer sheet compensation is designed by both ownership and the veteran membership of the PA to be an unattractive and unrealistic option

EXACTLY

The 2019 draft happens BEFORE we’d be potentially signing any RFAs to offer sheets
So the picks we do or don’t have in 2019 don’t matter

Since we have all our picks in 2020 and beyond,
we can sign an RFA at any competition level we wish

Good post sir

If you don't have your own 3rd, let's say, you can't sign a RFA that would require you to move that pick. You must have your own picks to use as the compensation for signing RFA's, if memory serves correct.

But we don't have our 2020 3rd. (frank) you Skinner!!

So Taco was right, but for the wrong reasons.

Didn’t we give up this years 2nd,
but get their 3rd next year?

Do i have that wrong?

No it was Pu, 19 2nd, 20 3rd and 6th.

In other words, all poop.

That’s correct
My bad
I thought we got the 2020 3rd, not that we gave it up

My apologies

*we really got ripped off in that Skinner trade! Lol

If we would have traded Pu and a 2nd for Skinner and a 3rd Botts would never ever ever be on the hot seat in his entire life!

We're going to have a great time doing that without our 2nd round pick.

So here is a theoretical ideal

Say they move a few players out and they get another teams 2nd

Would it be smarter for them to move the 2nd to Carolina to get their 3rd back?

You know if they actually plan on offersheeting someone???

Can you imagine the GMs panic if they see a team trade to get their original pick back just so that team could send out an offer sheet?

2020 draft

We have our 2nd but not our 3rd

Time to move on

Offer sheets can only go out on July 1st (or later), so after to the 2019 NHL draft

I think that's the point. If the NHL wants to see offer sheets cause chaos like the fans want, the entire system needs to be restructured, and there needs to be incentives for GMs to (frank) their friends. Because clearly they're not doing that right now.

this is wrong

the offer sheets get done AFTER the draft

we have our first round picks for 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

we don't have our 3rd or 6th in 2020

Apparently I missed it by a year. I iz gon' remake a post

Here's what the Sabres can actually do.
$1,339,575 or less (no comp)
$2,029,660 to $4,059,322 (2nd)
Over $10,148,302 (4 1sts)

Thanks Fitz, you made it worse.

Take comfort in knowing we were both wrong, but for different reasons

Not having our 2019 pick makes zero difference sir
