We kinda need a 3C desperately.

Unless you're loving Sobotka

- jcragcrumple

Who doesn’t love SaBOTTka? Key piece of the ROR trade.

U know i hate Sobotka at 3C
But there’s no way in hell we should EVER trade a 1st for a 3C
If our GM can’t find a 3C for cheaper than that, then we need a new GM

If ERod continues to play well, is it really a desperate need?

You said a 1st, not me. And if it's the SJS 1st and Nylander for a 3rd and Coyle? Not bad. Gives us what we need

If Erod is on the 4th line, we are much more dangerous team

Trouba looked great in person.

Wonder if we trade a few picks at the draft and a young guy or 2? Winnipeg cant pay everyone. Not sure if they are taking the "tampa" discount to stay.

He would be a rfa?

What would the Sabres have to pay him?

- Boss34

We’d have to give up a ton,
and pay him around 7.5mil per I’d guess

Might be better off going after a cheaper guy who could be a good partner for Dahlin
I’ve suggested Manson from the Ducks

Dahlin is & will be so good that i don’t think he needs another “star” for his partner

Sobatka is an upgrade over 5 or 6 forwards on the 2018-2019 sabres.

Nolan
Cristo
Pouliot
Griffith
Josephson

Probably a few more. He's an NHL player

Of course he is
Just sucks as a 3C
On line4 in a defensive role, he’s capable

I like manson and montour.

I think they are strongly underestimated on our board.

Both are young point producers.

Gonna cost alot too

I granted your premise. The Kane deal worked out better for WPG than it did for us.

Even if your premise is true, it doesn't mean that trading picks will be a bad outcome in every deal.

And your secondary premise, that we would acquire a rental or older vet for the picks is not what I have ever said. I'm looking for a young player with term in need of a change of scenery or better chemistry, or who will be sacrificed to cap issues

I don't know if those situations exist. But that's what I would hope to do with the picks.

- Der Kaiser

Of course it doesn’t. Just like every first rounder isn’t Zemgus Girgensons or Mark Pysyk.

My entire point is people continually point out the value of first rounders and how they are crapshoots, and never point out the reality that trading for players who need contracts or might not be good fits etc happens all the time as well

If you recall the line of Erod Larsson Girgs was lights (frank)ing out during our 10 game win steak. I really think breaking up that line hurt us.

My point is we got 2 nhl players for ror.

They replaced some bottom feeders from last year.

Sobotka might not be great, but he is an nhl player

Montour will
Manson isn’t a point producer & isn’t as young, so he’d likely cost less to acquire
*and also won’t have a big contract at any point either

Interesting question. He’s clearly overqualified for 4C (unless we had a truly stacked team), and not good enough for 2C, which should solidly be Mitzy’s soon enough.
Seems like the right spot for him, but this team badly needs depth.

That is setting the bar pretty darn low, like, just lying on the floor.

Right
But if we don’t play him in the proper role,
then the hate is justified
Just like how you hated on Larsson & Girgs last year & i said they wouldn’t be that bad if they were playing on the 4th line
Same with Sobotka
Just play him where he belongs, and he’s fine
Play him at 3C, and he blows

I hate any trade including risto but this is enticing, and somewhat realistic.

I will not be surprised if we have the same players on our roster on Feb 26 as we do today. The only possible trade I see if Beaulieu for obvious reasons.

I'd say 37 points in 80 games last year is a "point producer". And a +34

27 is borderline/ youngish. Especially for a defenseman.

The "Tampa" discount works better when it's 80 degrees warmer on average during the winter.
