Hypothetical questions:
1. If you can sign Panarin, would you trade Marner and get a top 4D and a blue chip prospect and a 1st round pick?
2. If McDavid gets tired of losing and demand trade next year, would you trade AM plus for him? - gamerdoc
Hypothetical answers:
1. That's an awful lot of cap hit. But just for furn, I'd trade Nylander instead of Marner. The return will be less, but that's because Marner is better.
2. If McDavid demands a trade, why do we need to sweeten a McDavid for Matthews swap? They won't get a better offer than that.

Well reportedly Marner wants 10.5 at 5 years. I don’t know if Panarin will cost a lot more than that? So the question really is do I like Marner more than Panarin? I think I do but figured I would ask.
Re: AM I see your point but in that scenario AM is guaranteed to walk out of Edmonton at the end of his current deal. Oilers may want to have some insurance. From our perspective, would we rather have McDavid?

McDavid is guaranteed to walk after his current deal as well, no way he's staying in Edmonton unless they turn that franchise around. Lots of time for them to try while he's still under contract I guess
I dont know why anyone wouldnt want Gudas. We need some toughness on the backend and he certainly provides that, plus hes better then Zaitsev.... - Archaic

I believe either JT or AM's contract is up around the time that McJesus will be an FA.
Simply sign him then.

Panarin is 27. Marner hasn't shaved yet.
And I don't give a crap what the Oilers want. They would be dealing from a position of weakness.

Agree with you. Marner, Nylander, Matthews and Kapanen all will get better, even Johnsson ( a freakin 7th round pick by the Leafs!!!!!!!) is getting better, Leafs will not be pursuing any significant UFA's for many years IMO - why would they. Tampa - has basically developed most of their talent internally - as should the Leafs.

Let's not forget about the talent still in the Marlies. The cupboard is full, there's no need to overspend for a little bit of now.

Agree completely, as walshy pointed out previously Bracco has better AHL numbers than either Kappy or Johnsson. Plus we have some good talent on d coming as well. Develop draft, win, repeat.
