That is 28 million needed with only 11 in cap room. So 17 million needed to shed

That gives them 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies for $18.5 million, and with Horton on LTIR they'll have about $16-17 million in usable space.

They need to dump about $2 million in salary somewhere, but would probably prefer a little more flexibility and will try to move Zaitsev or Marleau if they can.

The more I read that the Flyers are hanging on to Simmonds, the more I despair for the future. I really don't want to hear how great he is in the locker room or what a "glue guy" he is. This team's core has been an issue for the last four or five years. If he is the glue...than he is part of the problem. Period. He is also clearly on the downside physically. He is clearly a step slow in open ice, he still takes stupid/selfish penalties in the offensive zone and makes bone headed plays in the defensive zone. When he is scoring, yes, he can be valuable. When he is cold, he is a borderline 3rd line player.

IF The Flyers are going to tie up cap space and term on him then they are not interested in long term improvement of the franchise.

Period.

They have 11 million to sign 9 players 3 of which will cost 15- 20 million. They need to shed 10 million+ next year.

why are you so worried about this? It's like you think the more you push it the more likely your premonitions will come true.

Kappy and Johansson will both sign 2 or 3 year deals for about 2.0 to 2.5 each, thats it. They were both in the AHL last year. The way you guys are talking most of the teams are going to way over the cap.
