Pretty sure he was part of the reason they won against Montreal.

Not completely sure, but pretty sure though.

- JohnFergusonJr

He made a good pass in OT yeah.

Other than that he’s been a fraction of himself. Missing passes and just not looking like a game changer.

That’ll change. Every player goes through it.

I think when the season ends we’ll hear that he’s been playing with a shoulder injury. If he didn’t like Babs he wouldn’t have wanted an eight year deal. When the season started he was the most dominant player in the league.

I agree... he doesn’t get “involved “ as much. Just hope he is not a glass cannon in the coming years.

Pundits were pretty hard on Dubas on 590AM this pm on missed opportunity past summer.

“Why would you bet against your own player?”

Anyways, I dearly hope Dubas don’t go to AA route and sell the farm to win now. I want them to have as many shots as possible next 7-8 years, during AM and Marner’s prime. Need peripheral players to win... just look where the Jays are now...

- gamerdoc

I totally said this, not.

I may have, idk.

What exactly was that question about? Is it another idiot suggesting Dubas should've signed Matthews and Marner before this season?

Because it's already come to light that he at least tried to sign Marner before the season began, and Marner's camp turned down the deal because they knew he'd have a good year. Dubas can't force players to sign. Marner knew he'd have a monster year with Tavares, so why wouldn't he wait until after the season?

As for Matthews only signing for 5 years, if that's what it's alluding to, the reasons have also been covered. He's signed for probably his most productive years and he's signed for a slightly lower cap hit because it's only 5 years instead of 8, which we needed in order to fit under the cap at this time.

Yes... he insisted Marner wanted 8-9M per year x 8. Dubas thought it was too rich, and countered with something lower. Hence Dubas agent saying they lowballed him in the summer etc

Nasty here in the west end...it's really raining right now...and freezing.

Good for your folks. My wifes parents are in Cabo for the entire month...they just sent pictures...I hate them.

Yeah, they planned for retirement properly and are enjoying themselves these days. I'm happy for them.

I live out in the country south of Hamilton and had to go to Pearson airport, so driving on the 403 and 401. poopty day for driving.

It’s funny how the pundits never say these things about Winnipeg, Colorado, Tampa and other teams who have high end rfa’s on expiring contracts. Why didn’t they all sign their players before the season?

So far yes

JT is consistent as they come. He seems to always at least seem like JT every game.

But he’s been around the game a little longer than AM and MM

He's a cop...lol.

We were on an old logging road on our way to a small walleye lake north of Foleyet. Didn't catch up to moosie, but we sure got a laugh. He wanted to see it, and thought the hatchet was enough protection should something happen...lol.

So Dubas did basically exactly what all the people on here suggested he should do.

His offer made sense considering Marner's production up to that point, but unfortunately Marner had another year he could play to prove himself (unlike poor Willy), and knew he'd have a breakout year playing with JT. Thus he wouldn't sign.

Marner's agent knew he'd have a huge year and would be worth more money, thus declared that offer a "low-ball offer", which depending on how you look at it, could be considered correct.

Marner wasn’t going to sign anyway. No point blaming Dubas...except the media needs some fake controversies to talk about.

What AA didn't know was that Price would suck during the playoffs. If Price had lived up to his expectations then we would probably be talking about how the Jays won the World Series that year.

There's no way that Doobie sells the farm like AA did. It's easy to forget that the Leaf core is still very, very young and has a long way to go.

There's too much wrong here... Neither Matthews or Marner were actually interested in signing a deal before the season, so there's nothing (short of offering far too much money) that Dubas can do to force them. 8x8 would have got that deal done should it have been proposed - which it was not.

That was just Marner's agent trying to negotiate through the media - and it backfired horribly.
