He’s being sheltered?

I’ll take a guy who the team gets more goals and shots while he’s on than they give up by a significant amount. A guy who the team score more with and gives up less while he’s on than just about anyone on the team.

Why would you start this?

Regardless of what he said,I just don't see Dubas trading Nylander. I think he likes Nylander and values what he brings to the team. He could come out and say Nylander walked into my house Xmas day and shat all over our Xmas dinner. Still don't think he would trade him.

Dubas seems to like really good players.

- walshyleafsfan

Exactly, so if he can trade a really good player for a really good player that plays in a position he feels we need.

He will.

very true.

Just wanna point out that Muzzin was a +2 last night. Only d-man above a 0.

Ah Jakie Boy. The one of the Leafs best dman who's the only guy that you can't trust killing penalties (Dermott gets a bit of a pass because he's only been around 1 year) or trust to be put on when defending a lead in the last 2 minutes because he can't defend? The "high risk - high reward" guy that the high reward part is currently 2 goals and 27 points? That guy?

Yeah, not for me. If you have to shelter a guy who's been in the league 8 years because you simply cannot trust him to defend, and he is a defenseman, I'd rather not waste everyone's time.

He's their 4th, possibly 5th best defenceman. He'd probably be our 4th best winger if that's any consolation.

I'm not one of the ones who'll blindly just accept the multiple errors, lackadaisical, sloppy plays every game because it's just Jake being Jake.

Seriously though, why would the leafs want to trade one of their best dmen heading into the playoffs?

So you should like Ron Hainsey. What you've described is loosely known as plus/minus (give or take 5 goals or so). Plus/minus is a frowned upon stat for some reason, due to it being a team stat.

Misjakes should not be accepted by this fanbase. And his 7 more points than Hainsey (1 less goal) is embarrassing for the an offensive defenseman.

I only watched the 1st period. Ice was tilted towards the Leafs end in that period.

So looking at just stats, Marner had a rough game
scoring chances were 1-14 with him on the ice. umm that not good lol

Crappy Jake was 9-3, one of the few with a good %

Willie was pretty good also

Just watch the games

This is ungood:

Rielly Hainsey: we know this sucks. Stop it.
Muzzin Zaitsev: this is kind of a wash in all honesty.
Gardiner Dermott: cool, now Gardiner gets soft OZ starts, but his strength is the breakout.

I get it: Rielly is better on his left side, but he hasn't been that bad. Kid can still skate no matter what side he's on. Rielly-Muzzin is such a stronger pairing than Rielly-Hainsey, who's been actually good on the 3rd pairing.

- gravyface

There seems to be a couple of issues. The main is that Zaitsev is terrible. The others is that it seems Babcock doesn't seem to have much trust in Dermott, and likes Gardiner.

Babcock would probably like a top 4 of Rielly, Muzzin, Gardiner and Hainsey. The issue is he will have people playing their off side. The other big issue is a pairing of Dermott and Zaitsev probably scares him to death.

Zaitsev is really becoming a huge pain. It has become a catch 22. You don't want to play him, but if you don't play him, you can forgot about any chance of trading him.

So, I suppose the most recent performance changes the reality of all past performances. How did I know that was going to happen.

They're gonna lose Gardiner in 4 1/2 months.

They'll probably want to keep Zaitsev and play him with a decent partner, see how he does, and then see what to do at that point.

That'd be hilarious if the Leafs won the Cup and Gardiner scored the winning goal in OT thus becoming a God in Leaf lore, and then left as a UFA. People would feel very powerful conflicting feelings about him. I hope that happens.

I hope that the Leafs blow a 3rd period lead in game 7 and Gardiner is a -5. He's then let go. Next season the Leafs win the Cup. The only goalscorers in the playoffs are Hainsey (re-signed), Zaitsev, Matthews, Hyman, Marincin (deadline traded back for) Brown, Sparks and Nylander.

Basically everyone that's been blamed for most losses in the past.

I'm sure some Leaf fans would try and find a way to extinguish the fun of a long playoff run. Whether the team is firing on all cylinders or not.

Nothing conflicting about it.
We won the cup. Good
Gardiner would finally do something right in the playoffs. Good
He would then leave the leafs to be overpaid by another team, wed wish best of luck. Good.
Leafs won the cup, which should then negate anyones care for any possible cap issues. Good.
Simple.

"Leafs win the cup"
Nothing else matters after that, specially regarding who scored or didnt.

If recency means since he was injured, with only 2 notable games as exceptions... then, yes.

Look at October performance vs. the rest of the year.

I have never had disdain for Matthews. People just chose to ignore everything positive I ever said and blow way out of proportion everything negative... and now, it is a game I play with gullsie et al.

I would be just as happy as the rest of you if we were seeing the same guy we saw in October every night
