Any chance they reenter the Parayko sweeps with Ollie out? |

Considering Malkins stick didn’t even touch Raffl 1 game is plenty. Intent is a big gray area and I would hate to see the “intent” argument start getting overblown. Refs already dish out penalties based on how loud the boards rang on a hit. |

Yohe says Maatta out at least a month with a fairly sever shoulder separation. They're hopeful he doesn't need surgery and that he will return before the end of the regular season. |

Id say you can kiss that 1st good bye at this point.
They don't make $$$ unless they make the playoffs. |

If he is available they better be in on it. Whether Maata is healthy or not! |

If its a separated shoulder, that's a better injury to have. I think he tore the same labrum twice. That's a terrible injury, but if its the 3rd injury to the same shoulder the Pens should consider walking away from Maata at this point somehow. |

Seriously think that the DOP dropped the ball on this. I also think that Malkin's attitude towards it is poop. Anyone who's played the game knows that a pinch to the helmet by a gloved hand can piss you off, but isn't that bad. A stick swung recklessly high with intent to make contact (as it was a blind swing) can be deadly. 5-10 games minimum and absolute bullpoop. - cranktheradio
Not that I want to re-enter this conversation I will say I agree the punishment is way too light, I’d say 4-5 games is fair...only because he’s not a repeat offender. Was it irony that he’s playing counter strike in his Instagram post today?
He needs to learn to chill a bit more. |

I may be in the minority but I’d rather see what Prow has, mostly because I don’t feel like rentals add much (Parayko is a stud no doubt) but they don’t tend to gel enough this late in the year. Prow could come up and bring energy like Teddy did. |

I don't think Malkin's attitude was poop... I think it was exactly what the DOPS has put out and shown is the acceptable level of misconduct you can get away with without a real punishment.
What was most of the predictions here... a fine or 1-2 games? Seems spot on to expect them to not take anything seriously. |

Jackets, Hurricanes, Sabres all in W column tonight. Finna crush alberta this week at home to keep pace in that WC spot at the moment. |

Classic that a Flyers fan would have that point of view.
Pens had just won a 2nd Consecutive Cup based on speed and skill and all of the sudden, GMJR trades to get a goon? It's as if he forgot why they were successful.
RW wasn't pushing a false narrative. Reaves was a waste of a roster spot. Sad thing is, he is/was more productive than Simon, Pearson or Jack Johnson are now... - Amanion
Pearson floating around at 4 mil and Johnson actively hurting our team at 3.5 are certainly much larger handicaps than Reaves. While I would much rather have Reaves than Johnson, I'd still take Pearson over him (Not at his current cap) because at least Sullivan will play Pearson, Reaves would barely get any time on ice, which just put more strain on Sid and Geno ice time wise. But Simon?? The guy has decent point production and can slot in really anywhere, for how cheap he is, I like him. The issues come if he gets the Connor Sheary Contract. |

Would take Ryan Reaves back any day of the week. Our team is soft as baby poo. Anything to get Matt Cullen into the press box. Our team is no longer tops in speed or skill and we don't punish the opposing players. The team no longer has a standout identity. How is Blueger sitting for Cullen and Hornqvist not a permanent fixture on line one?
As said previously, Maata down now, there goes our first round pick. |

Did he mention if that was the same shoulder he had surgery on a few years ago?
It will be interesting to see what JR does and if he tries to pick up a defenseman before the deadline. I was hoping he would even before the injury to Maatta. |

The attitude thing is about his response. He downplayed that he just swung a stick at a dudes head. I don't care if he barely made contact...it's absolute garbage. You admit that you just cost your team and stepped over the line. Selfish and not cool at all. |

Grinder, HE SWUNG A STICK AT A MAN'S HEAD...I don't mind fighting. I don't mind hard hard fought checking, grinding, a little stick work, some tiny cheap poop that gets under your opponents skin. But, you swing a stick that high there is no doubt of your intent. It's a horrible response by a great player. |

I'm with you there. The most frustrating thing with the Pens the last 2 seasons has been bringing in other teams failures and not giving your own guys a shot.
Why trade Pouliot and then sign JJ. Why then trade Sprong for Petterson? Why trade for Pearson when Blueger is ready to contribute? JR has gone from the best GM to possibly the worst now that Chiarelli got whacked.
It would be a perfect scenario if Prow could come up and hold down the 3RD slot. Schultz is on contract for one more year which could give him time to develop into a replacement. |

The trade for Reaves was terrible because they paid such a high price but I really like Reaves as a player. He definitely contributed for Vegas last year. I think a 4th line of teddy, McCann and Reaves would be great to roll out.
Don't want them to trade their first round pick but it seems like the Pens just bury most of their own guys and then trade them for peanuts anyways. I just hope if they trade it they get a long term quality piece out of it. |

Yes but like I said tge stick didn’t even make contact at all. It was a dive. So all they are punishing is the intent. If the NHL goes down that road every time Reaves catches the glass hard on a missed check they could suspend his “intent” to hit too hard. I could see the Ryan Wilson’s of the world starting this trend. I mean I don’t like seeing stick swinging either, but on the other hand he could have ended Raffls career and I really wouldn’t think twice about it. Dude punched him in the back of the head. |

I agree that our success came from allowing the young guys to come up and play to take the spot of others on the team. Like Guetzel, Rust, ZAR, Bluegar, and maybe even Prow. I think this is one of the issues of not letting the younger guys be the solution. Sprong didnt even get a fair opportunity with Sullivan, but I know his was more of an attitude issue. I am hoping this offseason JR and Sullivan talk so that next year some of our prospects can make the jump to add energy. If they trade away some salary and sign an additional allstar and let the young cheaper guys get their place in the line up (much like our few cup runs). I think we will he ok. |

It shouldnt matter. Do you think someone who failed to murder someone should get a light sentence because they botched the job? No you still intended to do it. It doesnt matter that you missed. Using your stick as a weapon is not a hockey play and stuff like that shouldnt be acceptable. I said the exact same thing about Duncan Keith a few years ago. He should have not played a playoff game that season.Hitting someone in the head with the stick can lead to a serious injury and 1 game suspensions do nothing to deter anyone from doing it again. When Malkin orn any NHL player does serious damage, it is too late! We shouldnt be waiting for a Bertuzzi like incident before actually doing something.... |

Attempted murder and a half assed stick swing at an opponent who is wearing a robo cop helmet and just punched you in the back of the head are pretty separate things. Even if Malkins stick would have hit him I doubt it even hurts with the shield Raffl wears. 1 game is plenty. |
