You'll have a handful of teams (Nashville, Winnipeg, Tampa, Calgary) vying for these top players (Duchene, Panarin and Stone). Pittsburgh has nothing left. They have been trading prospects and picks like candy for a decade now. I don't think Dubas will trade any of his top prospects. Who's left? Washington? SJ (after Karlsson and Kane deals - seems unlikely)? NYI? Some teams have already said they are out of the rental business (Vegas and Montreal).

With players like Simmonds available who may be a better fit on some of those teams, I'm not sure the return will be better than top prospect/1st round pick.

I fixed Meier - it's 6 in 36 games.

Anyway, keep hoping that Kotkaniemi is a 3rd line guy AT BEST, because you are preparing yourself to be disappointed. And that's coming from a guy who was pissed at the Habs' pick last summer, and who realized he was dead wrong. You could try that once in a while.

That isn't the point. The point is that most players who are of similar age to Kotkaniemi are not playing in the NHL. He's doing very well for a kid learning the pro game. He'll add another 10-15 pounds of muscle this summer and will be even better next season. In 3-4 years he'll be a perennial 60-70 point centre.

Kotkaniemi is at best a third line center with 30-40 pts potential. Zadina will be a solid top 6 forward to the Wings.
