I say yes to both. Please. Might bring a little spark.
Do we sit AMac or Ghost? What might have seemed like a no-brainer is a legit question now. - cdearth23

What ever moves Fletch makes in the near future (trades / FA signings), I just hope he finds a way to bring some offensive creativity to this forward group. Would love to see us get a guy like Granlund from MIN or Rakell from ANA. I realize those teams aren't exactly looking to give those guys away, but with the disappointing seasons they're both having, maybe anythings possible... And no, I don't think they would cost "too much". I fully realize that you have to give to get, and I for one would be willing to deal value to bring some creativity & excitement to this lineup.
Like most, I love Simmer & greatly appreciate all that he's done in the past. But IMO, it's just time to move on. And I will be disappointed if the return is another gritty, sandpaper-type player. If a deal can't be worked out that brings back a more finesse type roster player or prospect, then I'd rather just get some picks. Then, as suggested on these boards already, possibly flip those picks for the players/prospects that we actually want. |

If I am guessing maybe MacDonald but Gostisbehere is kind of frustrating me. Might be time to let Sanheim on that top unit. SOme of his decisions with the puck and shot selection are frustrating |

If a player goes 18 months without a suspension he's no longer a repeat offender regardless of how many suspensions he has had previously. Mandated under the CBA - MJL
The problem is DoPS doesn't give him the first (frank)ing suspension that he's earned how many times already. Each time he's brought before them they say we won't suspend him due to him not being a repeat offender... Don't you see the cycle there? |

They deserved L’s in recent others - Just5
Maybe so, but that's irrelevant to my point. They need to keep pushing hard like they did in THIS game. They can't let one loss define how they play the rest of this season. Keep pushing, no matter the point differential in the standings. |

This Malkin thing really shows how messed up people are in the world are. All excuses and justification and seeing Penguin fans blame Raffl for Malkin's actions is pathetic. I don't care if he missed by 2 feet or broke his face, it should be a suspend-able offense no matter what. No different than that POS Duncan Keith with his TWO wild stick swings that got him suspended, it needs to be taken out of the game with zero tolerance.
Wow how did JvR not get a penalty for that high stick, that was dangerous. I'm sure Flyer fans would still be screaming if that happened to Flyer player - Glak18
I am glad that JvR got at least fined for his actions and it is understandable that his incident was a bit different being off balance, but it was still careless and could of caused serious harm.
Anything less than a game the blame goes 100% on the NHL and DOPS for allowing it. |

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 2/12/19 @ MIN - bmeltzer
I was really warming up to to Scott Gordon until you had a 5 minute major penalty, with 4:54 left, you score once and than decide to pull the goalie and place Michael Raffl on the ice as your third attacker. Seriously. You can’t make this stuff up. You have a bench filled with Couturier, Patrick, Konecny, Provorov, Lindblom And Sanheim and this is what he comes back with.... |

I'm not arguing the inconsistency and lack of effectiveness of the DoPS. I'm just stating what the definition of a repeat offender is.
In my opinion, Malkin should get a minimum of 10 games. It was a wild and reckless swing of a stick at a player head. A player could lose an eye, suffer facial fractures, lost teeth, etc. |

That was def a head scratcher. Raffl was playing well and drew the penalty but still.

I mentioned a couple of days ago that I thought that Ghost was the least contact oriented Dman and was straightened out by a few on this board. Watching the game last night I saw what everyone was telling me. Ghost was engaging last night. The least physical Dman is Sanheim last night.
Notes: This isn't Malkin's first stick action on a player, but I don't believe that he was ever suspended so he isn't a repeat offender. It's funny how that happens. Crosby can take off a guys finger, but he doesn't use his stick either. It's the Penguins -'nuff said.
The whole team last night made sooo many bad turnovers - especially in the 1st. Maybe they were trying too much - who knows?
Provy was really engaged, but I think that he was trying to do too much. He was doing all of the heavy lifting on his pairing.
The Flyers put a lot of shots on net, but most of those hit Murray square in the chest leaving possible rebound attempts but to the Pens credit the crowded the net area so much that no clean rebound attempts could be made.
I said it before, Sanheim needs to hit the gym, gain some weight and muscle, add gain some confidence. Gosh, he has some talent with the puck and usually knows when to pinch. But needs to shut down some people when on the 1st defensive unit. |

The good news is Malkin will be ready for the next matchup in Philly, the bad news not a single Flyer will do anything. |

Yeah no chance they were suspending him for the Stadium Series game. Clearly they care about player safety when swinging a stick at a head only gets a phone hearing. Intent is all that should matter here, not result.
And for any Penguins fan (like the ones sitting next to me at the game) who thinks he shouldn't get anything, I'll pose this question: if Wayne Simmonds swings his stick at Crosby's head, how do they feel? I rest my case. |

I like Raffl as a player, but on this instance I agree with you. I believe he was the wrong tool for the job. |

Imagine if Giroux did that to say Rust....
Not only would Pens fans be calling Giroux the dirtiest player ever to play the game, but Crosby would be doing interviews telling people this is why he hates Philly because all their players are POS people. |

Good point. Didn't Marchand do some stupid crap last year before the outdoor game, but didn't receive any discipline until after the outdoor game. |

Sanheim had his worst game in a while last night, can't play well every night. Bounce back and have a good one tonight. trying to discredit a 50 shot performance is a little ridiculous, we had plenty of high quality shots that he made saves on. |

I blame Sanheim for the Guentzel goal last night. He had the puck, had position, and let Guentzel fly by him. |

I didn't discredit the effort. It was a great effort. But, if you didn't think that they didn't make too many turnovers especially in the 1st well then... |

Coming back from a long absence from injury, that's a lot to put on a young kid. I was thinking along the line of someone like Goulbourne to shake things up and use that energy to practice his hip checks on Malkin's legs. |

Especially if you look at the shot charts from last night's game...it's almost like the Flyers didn't know there was a high slot at all. |

Maybe Simmonds will handle it as a going away present to the Flyers fans? |
