I thought this was a bottom 5 team. Did you see this as above a bubble team(which we are right now)?! |

26-19-4 with a ECHL goalie and multiple call ups from VAN this year. They are middle of the pack for AHL, hardly "trash" - Codes1087

By the end of this season, they will be in the bottom 2 or 3 in the West, with a few more teams from the East below them. They are not βabove a bubbleβ team, they are βbelow a bubbleβ team, currently.
They have won games they were badly outplayed in thanks to a few great performances.
Improvement? Sure, but I wouldnβt say they have played well all season. |

Trent Cull said he pushed back some meetings Tuesday morning to stay up Monday and watch @zmacewen11's NHL #Canucks debut. Referred to it as like a proud dad moment to see Zack get the opportunity. |

Was Trent also worried that Zacks feelings might get shredded for playing a top team like the Sharks? |

I get a chuckle over making an opinion only to have it dismissed as βa loss to one of the hottest teams in the league and the sky is fallingβ
I have stated my opinion on green for a couple of years, so Iβll try a different method. Can anyone tell me what is the system that Green has them playing? How can a team regularly be outshot for over 10 minutes to START a game be prepared? How can a team that has played 55 games together not know how to make a pass? How is it that every player tries over and over to skate the puck out of the defensive zone and turns it over at a 90% rate. Why does the power play have one set breakout play? Skate to centre ice, turn and pass the puck to the trailing guy, who turns it over.
My only conclusion will be that after next year everyone will be calling for Green to be canned. Iβm just ahead on this one.. - Makita
The answer isn't as simple as our system. Its also about the opposing system. A Defensive system will clock lanes and force / prevent passes ....its the coaches job to adjust for this during intermissions by altering or switching systems.
Often the real game starts in the 3rd.
But there is something to be said about scouting a team ahead and having a plan ready to sink them in the 1st. Usually that's more playoff time but some savvy coaches do it regular season too. |

Funny how easy it is to get a backup/AHL goalie when you actually try. |

Everyone's talking about feelings but for me this whole situation screams lack of roster depth. Until this team improves in that area, it will always be one or two injuries away from being a lottery team. |

Well look at that... it certainly shows the canucks are committed to making the playoffs. That JB, he's a competitor. |

Did you read Iain MacIntyre's article on last nights game on sportsnet? He wrote it 12 hours ago. It reeks of hurt feelings. Ian should have slept on it before writing an opinion piece. |

I disagree. He was lit up by Calgary and then to go into the next game the sharks clearly would have been bad. They gave the kid a shot. We all knew it would be bad. Get over it. Nobodyβs feelings were hurt. - thundachunk
Marky only let in 3 goals vs Calgary and played awesome. He must have really been hurt to sit out the SJ game but if he was 'reasonable' enough to go it's a bad coaching move whether we all agree with it or not. It is what it is. I'm sure the team will move on. |

If it's a sore groin you have to rest it instead of putting your player at risk. In the heat of the moment, you don't really think about nagging injuries and that tends to be how you make them much worse. |

I don't see how it's a bad coaching decision. Why risk your starters health if he's not feeling 100% especially with the other goaltender injuries? |

It's possible they felt it was an unlikely win anyhow so give the kid experience |

It was a good decision imo. No need to injure your best/only goalie who is playing lights out hockey for the team. Not only that it gives a kid a chance to get a real taste of the future. No real harm was done. The real harm would be putting Markstorm in a position to get injured.
What if Markstrom was actually hurt for an extended period of time? With Demko already out what's the move now?
The smart thing to do would be to go after Talbot. Go with that for the rest of the season. Who cares if Demko's feelings get hurt. This is the NHL. You get hurt you have to be replaced whether its internally or otherwise. Benji took a chance that McKenna would get claimed and he did. Its always a chance you take. We are not the only team in the league hurting for goalies. |
